Training Specialist

Empower and support adults with disabilities to engage and connect with their own community. We do this by helping adults set and accomplish personal goals based around becoming more independent. Our Training Specialist helps develop creative learning opportunities for CBDS participants to accomplish their goals within their community. In this position, you will support neurodiverse adults while they find new hobbies, make friends, learn about their community, volunteer, and try new things while building self-reliance.

• Supports individuals in achieving successful community integration and engagement.
• Support individuals in understanding community and cultural values, expectations, and social constructs essential to positive community access and engagement; Assist participants in recognizing and monitoring their own personal safety (physical and mental) within the community.
• Provides vocational skills training to prepare individuals for independent community access and engagement.
• Integrates the desires and needs of each participant into the customized service plan and activities.
• Trains, coaches, or mentors CBDS participants in accordance with their customized, person-centered service plan.
• Provides support to individuals one on one and in a small group setting within the community.

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Training Specialist empowers and supports adults with disabilities to actively engage and connect within their communities. This role focuses on helping individuals set and achieve personal goals that promote independence and self-reliance.  The Training Specialist will design and facilitate creative, community-based learning opportunities for CBDS participants. You will guide neurodiverse adults as they explore new hobbies, build friendships, learn about local resources, volunteer, and experience new activities—all while fostering confidence and independence. 

EDUCATION 

High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate required  

Relevant experience may be considered in place of formal education  

Bachelor’s degree preferred 

EXPERIENCE 

Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities in vocational rehabilitation or training settings is preferred. Relevant education may be considered in lieu of direct experience.  

COMPUTER SKILLS 

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook SharePoint and Teams  

Other Software: Internet navigation, Set-Works, Paycor 

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES 

Must have a valid driver’s license at time of application and obtain a Class E Chauffeur’s License within 30 days of hire. 

1st aid/CPR certified   

Mental Health 1st Aid 

Gentle Teaching 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS 

Demonstrated respect for the rights and dignity of individuals with developmental disabilities, with a willingness to advocate on their behalf.  

Ability to recognize and honor the cultural and spiritual diversity of participants.  

Skilled in planning, scheduling, and implementing activities for Community-Based Day Services (CBDS) participants.  

Awareness and recognition of personal biases.  

Knowledge of programs and services for individuals with developmental disabilities (preferred).  

Willingness to travel for company business using a personal or company vehicle.  

Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.  

Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.  

Successful completion of affirmative drug and alcohol screening (limited panel).  

Affirmative criminal and abuse background check. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

Facilitate community integration and prevocational activities for individuals with disabilities. 

Provide personalized support in alignment with each participant’s goals, interests, and needs. 

Design and deliver vocational skills training to promote independent community access and engagement. 

Coach and mentor CBDS participants through person-centered service plans in both one-on-one and small group settings. 

Assist individuals in understanding community norms, cultural values, and social expectations while promoting physical and mental safety. 

Develop functional skills to help participants achieve optimal independence and community involvement. 

Support participants in exploring community opportunities such as volunteering, social clubs, advocacy groups, recreational activities, and local resources. 

Build and maintain relationships with community partners and businesses to expand participant engagement opportunities. 

Transport participants to and from community activities as needed. 

Maintain accurate documentation, including case notes and progress reports, within required timelines. 

Ensure confidentiality and compliance with ethical and legal standards. 

Consistently meet billable service goals (25–30 hours per week). 

Represent Job One positively within the community and uphold the rights and dignity of all individuals served.
