Location: 441 W Kirkpatrick St, Syracuse NY 13204

Part-time, 17.5-34 hours/week , Full-time, 35-40 hrs/week.

Typical Schedule: M-F, 8:30 AM-4:30/5 PM.

$20 per hour, plus benefits

 

Job Description: The Pre-Employment Skills Coach supports individuals with disabilities in developing soft-skills that can translate to competitive employment through volunteer work at community businesses and by delivering lessons in a classroom setting. Soft skills include: following directions, work-appropriate communication, teamwork, adaptability, problem solving, time management, working productively, proper hygiene, and more. The Pre-Employment Skills Coach works closely with program participants by tailoring person-centered coaching to the needs of the individual. The Pre-Employment Skills Coach documents service delivery each day through a Management Information System by writing daily notes and submitting them in a timely manner.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Train and mentor clients in job readiness, workplace behavior, and social skills
  • Implement goal-driven services outlined in each participant's life plan
  • Monitor and assess client progress to tailor coaching strategies effectively
  • Work closely with employers to create supportive work environments
  • Transport participants between volunteer sites
  • Carry out all duties according to Agency, Program and OPWDD policies and regulations

Conditions of Employment

  • Clean & Valid NYS Driver’s License
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally and in all weather conditions, including rain and snow.
  • Must pass background check
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or related fields preferred, but not required. Will train the right candidate.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use a computer, including the internet.

     

Expectations for Success:

  • Extensive and ongoing written and electronic documentation required using a Management Information System
  • Ability to interface with a variety of people, including parents, people with disabilities, other service providers, community business personnel
  • High focus on relationship building, including building trust and ensuring follow through.
  • Plan services and other responsibilities, completing the following weeks schedule using Google Calendar
  • Ability to reprioritize schedule when necessary and communicate to appropriate staff
  • Ensure daily and monthly documentation is completed and meets required expectations
  • Ability to work independently in business environments to teach and train individuals in the program
  • Transport program participants to and from program activities using personal or agency vehicle
  • Teach individuals how to access and utilize public transportation or other options
  • Teach and coach job seekers with disabilities in a classroom setting and in the community to learn new tasks and develop soft skills (following directions, work-appropriate communication, teamwork, adaptability, problem solving, time management, working productively, proper hygiene, etc..) to support individual’s success in competitive employment
  • Attend and apply coaching skills learned from required (paid) OPWDD Innovations trainings
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
