About Connected Future Labs:
Connected Future Labs is an agile data science consulting company that engages in a variety of activities. Our previous work can be found in the Meta Neural Band, in Galea (a VR headset), and with KLAB 4 Recovery, a lab that develops cutting-edge rehabilitation for spinal cord injuries and stroke recovery.
Connected Future Labs is also the creator of biometric wearable EmotiBit. It provides high-quality, multimodal, open-source biometric sensing to researchers, educators, artists, and enthusiasts of DIY and personal health. EmotiBit launched in 2021 and has enabled work in over 100 publications and countless other creative and business ventures.
Internship Description:
Connected Future Labs is seeking a Research Communications Intern to promote innovative research in areas such as health, accessibility, education, and gaming/virtual reality (VR) as it pertains to the use of the EmotiBit device. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in reading academic research, communicating technical topics to a non-technical audience through a variety of modes, and an interest in inspiring a community with DIY ethos. The intern will build a portfolio of work demonstrating growth and versatility as a science communicator.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Complete 150 hours of work as an intern (8-15 hours per week, 15 weeks total)
- Write monthly blog posts that feature studies with EmotiBit for the EmotiBit website.
- Review research source material for self-selected blog posts based on a list of 80+ studies.
- Interview academic researchers to develop blog posts.
- Promote blog content on company social media sites including LinkedIn, Instagram, Reddit, Facebook, and X as well as in the EmotiBit newsletter.
- Review Google Analytics blog performance data and social media data to improve content strategies.
- Assist with data entry tasks.
- Contribute to clear procedural documentation for the internship role.

- Further academic research reading abilities.
- Communicate progress and ask questions when challenges arise across office, Slack, and email environments.
- Develop confidence communicating to interviewees by email and during interviews.
- Demonstrate initiative by contributing ideas that increase online engagement, synergize with other projects, or improve workflow.
- Develop familiarity with Wordpress and an image editing tool of your choice.
- Conduct any use of Generative AI tools with foresight and intention.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be a degree-seeking student at the University of Nevada, Reno during the Fall ‘26 semester
- Summer ‘26 or earlier graduates are not eligible for the Wolf Pack STEM Internship Program
- Student must be enrolled in a major or minor program in the following colleges:
- Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources (CABNR)
- Business
- Engineering
- Science
- Public Health/Orvis
- Willingness to learn, prioritize attention to detail, and incorporate feedback.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
- Reliable and able to manage multiple follow-ups and tasks.
- Strong record-keeping and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Pursuing a minor in liberal arts that fosters adaptability, critical thinking, and communication.
- Experience related to Arduino, wearables, or sensing signals from the body.
- Coursework or extracurricular experience related to writing, research, marketing, or videography.
- Familiarity with Wordpress, graphic design software (Canva, Adobe), and video editing software.
- Familiarity with social media
Desired Schedule for Intern:
Applicants should be available to work during business hours M-F, 9-5.
Pack STEM internships require interns to complete 150 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
