Description:
The UC Merced Community Engagement Center (CEC) is located at the heart of campus - Kolligian Library 190 and connects students, faculty, and staff to the greater Merced community through community service and leadership programs that promote reciprocal partnerships, consciousness of self, and academic success.
The Communication & Website Assistant supports the digital presence and outreach efforts of the Community Engagement Center and the Margo F. Souza Student Leadership Center. This position maintains and updates both centers' websites, ensuring content is accurate, accessible, and up to date. In addition, the Communication & Website Assistant leads the Community Engagement Center's marketing and communications efforts through social media management, promotional content creation, and newsletter development to increase awareness of programs, events, and engagement opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage, update, and maintain the Community Engagement Center website (cec.ucmerced.edu) and the Margo F. Souza Student Leadership Center website (studentleadership.ucmerced.edu) using UC Merced’s content management system (Drupal).
- Ensure site accessibility, functionality, and content accuracy.
- Collaborate with CEC student staff and professional staff to promote events, initiatives, and community engagement opportunities.
- Manage the Community Engagement Center's social media calendar, Instagram and LinkedIn accounts.
- Create promotional materials for programs, events, and initiatives.
- Develop and distribute monthly newsletters.
- Share program highlights, service opportunities, and event recaps.
- Support outreach and marketing efforts to increase program visibility.
- Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and a service-centered attitude in all tasks.
- Attend weekly team meetings and actively contribute ideas that support center goals, outreach efforts, and strategic initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Experience with website editing or content management systems (Drupal, WordPress, etc.).
- Familiarity with Instagram, LinkedIn, Canva, Excel, and digital communication tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented and organized.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with social media content creation.
- Interest in marketing, communications, or community engagement.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to balance multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
- Passion for community service, civic engagement, or service learning
- Preferred: 2nd, 3rd & 4th year students.
