Recreation Leader - ExL Afterschool programs

The Cosumnes Community Services District ("District") Parks and Recreation Department is seeking part-time Recreation Leaders within the Youth Development Division for the ExL Afterschool programs.

Position Description:

Under close supervision, the Recreation Leader assists in planning and conducting a wide variety of recreational and educational activities and programs such as day camps, youth and adult sports, leisure and enrichment classes, and special events specific to the assigned program area of the position. This position oversees and directs the activities of the participants at the site.

Position Overview:

The Recreation Leader plays a vital role in delivering a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for transitional kindergarten (TK) through sixth-grade students within Cosumnes CSD Youth programs. Recreation Leaders are responsible for the direct supervision of students and the daily program implementation, fostering a positive and inclusive program experience.
This position is ideal for individuals passionate about youth development, education, and community recreation who thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Actively supervise students and maintain staff-to-student ratios (1:20 general, 1:10 TK/Kinder).
Lead and facilitate daily activities in recreation, enrichment, and homework support.
Support smooth transitions and positive group management.
Participate in daily team huddles and follow scheduled lesson plans.
Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants.

Work Schedule:

Typical working hours are Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM–5:30 PM, with extended shifts (4–5 hours daily) for TK/Kinder staff. Schedule is aligned with the EGUSD academic calendar. Flexibility is required for mandatory trainings, professional development, and district-wide events at various Cosumnes CSD locations.

Salary Information
The salary range for the Recreation Leader classification is between $16.90 - $18.44 per hour. The District typically appoints new employees at step 1 of the salary range. Consideration for an appointment higher than step 1 will be based on experience, education, or the need for unique skills or knowledge, and shall be no more than the midpoint of the salary range.

Qualifications: 

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities may be considered qualifying at the sole discretion of the District. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

Preferred:

• Completion of thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units from an accredited college or university in a closely related field to which the position is assigned or proof of passing the Para-Educator proficiency exam. 

Experience:

• None required

Special Requirements:

• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, First Aid and CPR/AED certification within the first thirty (30) days of employment; Certification must be maintained through employment;
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
