Merchant / Product Category Specialist

At Witmer Public Safety Group, we provide Public Safety Products relied on by firefighters, law enforcement, and EMS professionals operating in demanding environments. We are seeking a Merchant / Product Category Specialist who can independently manage product categories, partner cross-functionally, and use data to drive disciplined merchandising decisions.

This role is designed for a hands-on merchant who wants ownership, accountability, and clear expectations within a defined scope.

What You Will Do

Execute category strategy

  • - Develop and execute merchandising strategies aligned with company goals and customer demand
  • - Support ecommerce, showroom, print, and sales channels with consistent product direction

Manage product assortments

  • - Curate and maintain Public Safety Product assortments based on sales performance, customer feedback, and market trends
  • - Evaluate product performance and recommend additions, changes, or discontinuations

Own vendor relationships

  • - Build productive working relationships with vendors and brand partners
  • - Negotiate pricing, terms, and programs that support margin and product availability

Analyze performance

  • - Monitor category sales, inventory levels, and key performance indicators
  • - Use data to inform assortment decisions, promotions, and investment priorities

Collaborate cross-functionally

  • - Partner with marketing on launches and promotions
  • - Support sales teams with product knowledge and category insights
  • - Coordinate with inventory planning to align demand and supply

Support financial discipline

  • - Support category-level budgeting and margin objectives
  • - Ensure decisions are data-driven and aligned with business priorities

What You Bring

Experience and education

  • - Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Marketing, or a related field
  • - 3 to 5 years of experience in merchandising, category management, or a related role
  • - Experience with Public Safety Product is highly preferred but not required

Skills and capabilities

  • - Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting sales and performance data
  • - Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with NetSuite or BlueRidge is a plus
  • - Vendor negotiation experience
  • - Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • - Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently

Work Structure and Environment

  • - Hybrid schedule with a maximum of two remote days per week
  • - Three days onsite each week is required
  • - Professional office environment with standard office equipment
  • - Largely sedentary role with occasional standing or light movement
