The Department of Health Informatics & Information Management in the College of Health Professions has openings for Graduate Instructional Assistant (GIA) support for the Fall 2026 semester and possibly beyond. The position will support faculty on both the San Marcos and Round Rock Campus locations teaching on-campus and online courses.

Responsibilities

  • Assist faculty members with course delivery, student engagement, grading, and instruction for on-campus or online undergraduate courses
  • Maintain confidentiality of information
  • Communicate effectively with students and faculty both verbally and in writing
  • Provide excellent customer service to students and faculty
  • Complete tasks with attention to detail and schedule

Requirements

  • Fulltime graduate student with regular admission to a graduate degree program at Texas State University, without conditions
  • Able to work on either the San Marcos or Round Rock campus, if needed. Commuting between both campuses is NOT required for GIAs but is a welcome ability.
  • Good academic standing, not on probation or suspension
  • Enrolled in full-time graduate hours
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong skills with Canvas and Zoom

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a GIA or working with health information
  • Current MSHI or MHIM students are preferred and encouraged to apply
  • Students in the College of Health Professions or a healthcare-related discipline are preferred
  • Students in computer science, data science, or computer information systems with an interest in the healthcare field are welcome
  • Strong computer skills including Excel, Python, SQL, and data management tools are welcome
