Position Summary:
TRIO Peer Tutors provide personalized academic support, guidance, and mentorship to TRIO participants to improve learning, boost confidence, and foster academic independence.  They facilitate one-on-one or small group sessions, clarifying course concepts, reviewing material, and modeling effective study strategies and note-taking skills.

We are seeking tutoring in the following courses: ACC 201, BIO 111, BIO 271, CHE 111, HDF 202, NUR 355B, and SPA 101. 

Specific Responsibilities:
•Provide academic support to peers, reviewing concepts, modeling notetaking strategies, and teaching study skills
•Academic Support & Content Review:  Tutors help clarify difficult concepts, review class materials, and prepare for exams.
•Skill Development: Active learning, time management, and test-taking strategies
•Individualized Learning:  Tailored approach to the specific needs of the student, often providing a more relatable perspective than professors
•Empowerment & Confidence:  Fostering support and relating to the student experience, to boost student motivation and encourage academic independence

•Safe Learning Environment: Offering a comfortable space where students feel safe asking questions and admitting confusion without the pressure of a grade
•Actionable Feedback:  Tutors offer immediate feedback on assignments and problem-solving techniques, helping students identify and correct errors.
 

Minimum Qualifications:
•Enrolled at UNCG, Full-time, in good academic standing (GPA of 2.0 or above)
•No University disciplinary/ conduct violations
•Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality
•Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), Microsoft Teams, Canvas, andCanva
•Have a clear and thorough understanding of the course content they wish to tutor
•Grades of A or B in the course area that you intend to tutor (CRLA guideline)
•Submit a recommendation from a content expert (former instructors, department chairs, Supervisor,etc.) who can attest to context expertise and the ability to communicate the content area (CRLAguideline; Rating forms will be sent to references)

•Applicants should be well-organized, detail-oriented and comfortable with multi-tasking and accomplishing various tasks within strict time constraints.

•Applicants should demonstrate a strong work ethic, reliability, and a willingness to learn.

•Applicants should be able to provide friendly and action-oriented customer service.
