2026-27 Seasonal Assistant, Basketball Communications

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the guidance of the Basketball Communications Team, the '2026-27 Seasonal Assistant, Basketball Communications' will observe the operations and learn the functions of the department and the team’s basketball front office. The position will also be tasked with providing support and assistance across all aspects of the basketball communications team including but not limited to daily clips, credentials, gameday set-up, media operations and press release writing where applicable.

*** This is a temporary position from September 2026 - June 2027, that will work onsite at Rocket Arena approx. 40 hours per week.  

*** Local candidates strongly preferred. There is not relocation assistance or temporary housing provided for non-local candidates. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Internal research techniques

  • Regularly search for and compile articles on the Cavaliers and archive the stories to chronicle the team’s media coverage. 
  • Attend and work Cavaliers home games and media events, including press conferences and practice media availabilities.

Publications/Media Website/Social Media Account

  • Help the department with updating records and writing/editing various informational materials, specifically game notes, press releases, player biographies and the Cavaliers media guide, media website and social media account.

Hands-on basketball communications game day responsibilities

  • Contribute to game day responsibilities including setting up media work areas, printing and delivering game notes, compiling packets for visiting teams and media, assisting with credentials, overseeing the media gate, writing postgame notes and transcribing/distributing interview quotes to the media.

Internal operations of the team’s front office and how to handle media requests

  • Assist in the operations of the basketball communications team, including answering phone calls and inquiries on behalf of the department as well as office duties (mail, copying, etc.). Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree from a four-year College or University (or currently pursuing a BS Degree), preferably in communications, public relations, sports management or a related field. 
  • Must be available to work all Cavaliers home games, including nights and weekends. Must be able to commit to the full 2026-27 regular season and playoffs, if necessary. 
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Computer literacy and basketball knowledge is required; experience in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.) is preferred. 
  • Must maintain professionalism at all times and understand discretion as a member of the Cavaliers basketball communications staff. Must take responsibility seriously and display maturity.
  • Must be organized, attentive to detail and independently motivated. Must be flexible, able to accept direction and constructive criticism, as necessary, and to absorb and work on multiple projects.
