Events Assistant
The City of College Park Communications and Events Department is looking for Contract Events Assistants to provide support with set-up and breakdown at city sponsored events and assist with activities, games and giveaways during events throughout the year. In addition, Events Assistant will provide support with packing materials, keeping inventory of items, distributing promotional materials (flyers, signs) throughout the City of College Park and general office support as needed prior to events. Schedules will vary from month to
month based on department needs, but applicants must be available nights and weekends.
Assistants are typically scheduled to work an average of 5-10 hours per month; however, additional hours may be required for smaller events and general office support as needed. Events are held indoors and outdoors, 12 months of the year.
This is a great student job as it is located all within College Park and most of the events occur on nights or weekends.
Must be available to work at the following events-
- Lunar New Year Event (February)
- Annual Egg Hunt (March or April)
- Spring Street Fair (May)
- Friday Night Live Events (June – August)
- Neighborhood Game Nights (July & August)
- Latin Heritage Event (September)
- College Park Day (October)
- Winter Wonderland (December)
Some duties include:
- Assist in physical set-up and takedown of event equipment including tables, chairs, tents, signage, etc.
- Assist with distributing promotional materials at events.
- Deliver promotional materials (signs, flyers) to schools and businesses in College Park before events.
- Interact and communicate effectively with events teams and the public.
- Work effectively around large crowds of people.
- Flexibility to perform many different work duties during an event.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions. Events are held indoors and outdoors throughout the year.
- Other event-related tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to stand on your feet for extended periods of time and work longer shifts.
- Comfortable lifting, bending, and moving items up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to work in a team setting.
- Self-starter who takes initiative on tasks and has attention to detail.
- Time management skills to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities in a timely manner.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-energy, interactive environment.
The minimum requirements for the position are:
- Reliable transportation and access to a vehicle to use when distributing
promotional materials. - High school diploma or equivalent; previous experience volunteering or assisting with events will be a plus.
- Ability to lift items up to 30 lbs. without assistance.
The starting hourly range is from $18.00 to $22.00 depending on experience. This position does not offer benefits.
