School of Health Sciences (SHS) Professional and Career Ambassador
The School of Health Sciences Professional and Career Ambassador helps students with both career-related and professional/graduate school tasks via drop-in hours and individual appointments. The Professional and Career Ambassador will maintain a flexible work schedule to be able to provide career-related guidance and workshops to students, support for the ECLIPSE leadership program and Explorations in Health Careers Summer Camp, and resource navigation for incoming freshmen within the School of Health Sciences.
This position is open to students currently pursuing an undergraduate or master’s degree at Oakland University. Enrollment in the School of Health Sciences is preferred, but not required.
You must be able to attend a mandatory multi-day paid training at the end of August.
Primary duties:
- Meet with students to offer guidance on resumes, updating Handshake and LinkedIn profiles, and interviewing for internship/job opportunities
- Provide freshman and sophomore level students with guidance and tools to help them explore potential career options related to their interests
- Coach students on pursuit of internship/job and graduate school opportunities
- Collaborate with peer Career Ambassadors to brainstorm strategies for increasing engagement and promoting services
- Facilitate career related presentations in classrooms for members of ECLIPSE and SHS student organizations on topics such as resume tips, personal statements, e-Portfolios, interview preparation, etc.
- Prepare and recruit students for upcoming career fairs, networking events, and School of Health Sciences-specific events
- Engage with staff from SHS Advising, ECLIPSE, Summer Camp, and the Dean’s Office regularly to maintain support and receive feedback
- Support success outcomes for incoming freshman students in the School of Health Sciences through resource navigation, student engagement activities and events, and other initiatives as assigned
- Support the implementation and evaluation of ECLIPSE, Summer Camp, etc. with staff and/or faculty
- Provide administrative support for SHS programming and staff as needed
Qualifications:
- Must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week during Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 semesters
- Must be a current student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at Oakland University; enrollment in a School of Health Sciences program is preferred but not required
- Possess flexibility and adaptability to manage availability in both the School of Health Sciences in the Human Health Building as well as the Career and Life Design Center in North Foundation Hall on a weekly basis
- Must be comfortable working with students in a group and individual capacity
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to present in front of a group and lead meetings
- Must be proactive and enthusiastic, and able to work effectively as a member of a team and autonomously
- Must be motivating, innovative, and demonstrate strong customer service skills
- Must be detail-oriented and adept at organization and time management
- Possess a strong desire to positively represent Oakland University
- Must be interested in and excited about helping students through career guidance utilizing resources, creativity, and advice
- Knowledge of the School of Health Sciences and/or healthcare is a plus, but not required
- Involvement on campus or in local communities is a plus
