Program Instructor
The Program Instructor supports the delivery of HAVEN's after-school program for children in grades K-5 at Jane Addams Place, a family shelter at 11th and Lehigh in North Philadelphia. This role focuses on facilitating literacy, arts, and movement activities, supervising children and youth interns, and maintaining a safe, engaging environment.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Assist with instruction and activity facilitation for HAVEN's after-school programming
- Lead small-group activities across literacy, arts, and movement blocks
- Support supervision of children in grades K-5 and high-school youth interns
- Help with session set-up, transitions, and clean-up
- Must have availability for at least one full shift per week starting in September 2026 (Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday from 4:15PM - 6:15 PM)
- Attend HAVEN trainings and complete required clearances before working
- (Optional) Instructors hired for the fall semester will be eligible to continue in the role during the spring semester
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Must be 18 years or older
- Fluent in English
- Ability to pass required background checks
- PA Child Abuse History
- PA Criminal History Background Check (PATCH)
- FBI Fingerprint Check
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or have completed a college degree
- Interest in education, child development, social work, arts, or a related field
- Experience working with elementary-aged children (tutoring, camp counseling, babysitting, coaching, etc.)
- Experience with literacy, arts, and/or movement instruction
- Strong communication skills and reliability
- Passion for youth development, educational equity, and/or housing justice
Compensation
- $15.00 per hour
- Public transportation costs to and from shifts will be covered.
