Teacher Position Description

• Rollingstone Community School is looking for a creative and results-driven part-time elementary teacher. This position will primarily focus on teaching physical education with the potential to teach other special classes and/or provide academic interventions. Rollingstone teachers engage students with inquiry-based learning, value collaboration with colleagues, prioritize differentiation of instruction, are reflective and open to feedback and continual development, and believe in teaching the whole child. RCS teachers will embody the vision, mission, goals and philosophy of Rollingstone Community School.

Teaching Responsibilities

• Building a culture in which students love learning.
• Establishes a positive environment through proactive methods, a clear management system, and strong student rapport.
• Plan, prepare, and teach well-developed lessons that enthuse and inspire students and promote their enjoyment of learning.
• Teach students through an inquiry-based STEAM curriculum, and placing the thinking work on all students.
• Deliver STEAM instruction through project-based learning methods.
• Design and administer a range of lesson materials and assessments that reflect an awareness of different learning styles and language skills.
• Holds all students to high expectations, with the fundamental belief that students with special needs and emergent bilingual learners are capable of incredible growth and achievement.
• Actively monitors and assesses student achievement and progress based on short-term and long-term goals and objectives.
• Provides timely and frequent feedback for students, based on formal and informal assessments, and aligned to lesson and unit objectives and quarterly goals.
• Supervise student behavior in accordance with the Student Handbook.
• Write reports on student academic and personal progress with clear formative comments and targets.
• Proactively builds relationships with other staff members to meet team goals, share best practices, and solve school community concerns.
• Engage in professional development; proactively apply professional development material into classroom and teaching; train with colleagues and leaders to receive targeted, in-the-moment feedback on instruction.
• Communicates regularly with families regarding the academic performance and behavior of students.

Skills and Abilities

• School teaching experience or student teaching experience with exemplary performance.
• Ability in adapting curriculum and lessons to various student needs.
• Teacher Licensure
• Disposition and experience to create a learning-friendly atmosphere that breeds enthusiasm among fellow teachers and students.
• A strong facilitator for developing student interests to drive learning, expanding each student’s ownership and agency.
• Knowledge of whole-child behavioral methods.
• Ability to articulate the school’s current mission and vision.
• Ability to work collaboratively with community groups, parents, and the general public.
• Excellent organization and written/verbal communication skills.
• Ability to bring projects to completion.
• Interest and commitment to work with a collaborative decision-making model.
• Ability to contribute to a high functioning, positive school climate and culture.

Community Relations

• Represent RCS in community and professional meetings to create a positive public image that maintains an open flow of communication and promotes retention and new enrollment.
• Perform public relations duties pertaining to accurate public awareness in order to increase funding, school enrollment and parental involvement.
• Work collaboratively with all stakeholders; the Board of Directors, Faculty and Staff, Parents, Students, and Community Members to successfully implement the school’s long range strategic plan.

Parent/Teacher/Student Relations

• Develop and maintain effective communication systems within the school community and build positive relationships with parents to address questions and concerns; direct parents to appropriate individuals or bodies where necessary.
