Instructor, Welding Technology - FT

Under the general direction and supervision of the Dean and Associate Dean, the Welding Instructor plays a vital role in preparing the next generation of skilled welding professionals. The successful candidate will teach in a modern, state-of-the-art Welding Technology Center equipped with industry-standard equipment and technology that supports hands-on, industry-focused learning.

This full-time, regular faculty position is responsible for developing and delivering high-quality instruction in the Welding Technology program through classroom, laboratory, online, and hybrid learning environments. Teaching responsibilities include lecture and hands-on laboratory in a variety of welding processes and related technical areas, including SMAW (Stick), GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), FCAW, oxyfuel and plasma cutting, welding safety, blueprint reading, metallurgy, fabrication and layout, welding inspection, and quality control.
 

The Instructor creates an engaging, safe, and inclusive learning environment that promotes technical excellence, professionalism, and student success while preparing graduates to meet the evolving needs of the welding and manufacturing industries.

Essential Functions

The Welding Instructor provides engaging, hands-on instruction that prepares students for rewarding careers in the welding and manufacturing industries. This position combines technical expertise with a passion for teaching, mentoring, and inspiring students from diverse backgrounds.

The Instructor creates an environment where students are challenged, supported, and empowered while developing skills in industry-leading welding processes, fabrication techniques, blueprint reading, metallurgy, safety practices, and workplace professionalism.

Inspire Learning

  • Teach lecture and lab courses using engaging, student-centered instructional strategies.
  • Demonstrate industry best practices in SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, fabrication, layout, cutting processes, welding inspection, and related technical areas.
  • Create learning experiences that build technical skills, confidence, critical thinking, problem-solving, and workplace professionalism.
  • Incorporate current industry technology, equipment, and emerging manufacturing trends into instruction.
  • Provide timely and meaningful feedback, coaching, and mentorship that supports student growth.


Champion Student Success

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused welding laboratory.
  • Ensure equipment, tools, and instructional spaces reflect current industry standards.
  • Promote a culture where safety, quality, and craftsmanship are everyone’s responsibility.
  • Assist with evaluating equipment needs and recommending technologies and resources that enhance student learning.
  • Follow College safety policies, industry standards, and applicable regulations.


Collaborate and Grow

  • Work alongside faculty and staff committed to excellence in skilled trades education.
  • Build relationships with employers, Workforce Leadership Team (WLT) advisory committee members, and community partners.
  • Participate in recruitment activities, student competitions, industry outreach, and student engagement opportunities.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, goals and assessment, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Participate in program meetings, division meetings, College initiatives, and professional development activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Associate degree in Welding Technology, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and industry experience.
  2. Recent professional welding and fabrication experience related to the area of assigned instruction.

The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification must be obtained within three years of employment as a condition of continued employment.

Salary

$57,912 per year

Benefits

SCC BEN Dollars – Eligible Employees: Full-time status. Regular employees with an FTE of 0.75 or greater will be eligible for SCC Ben Dollars. All employees will be required to elect a health insurance option. If the cost of insurance coverage selected by an employee exceeds the SCC Ben Dollars available, all additional costs will be withheld from the employee’s paycheck. Any SCC Ben Dollars that the employee does not elect to use for the purchase of dependent health and dental insurance will be paid to the employee in cash at $0.93 per $1.00 benefit dollar. All amounts paid are subject to withholding for income and employment taxes, but not subject to the College’s contribution toward the Retirement Savings Plan – Group Retirement Account (GRA).

Schedule

This is a full-time, regular faculty position with an implied 40-hour work week based on a 175-day instructional work calendar. Teaching assignments for this position are scheduled and approved by the College between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday based on the instructional work calendar. Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek. Because of the nature of skilled trades education, occasional evening, weekend, special event, recruitment, or industry engagement activities may be required.
