Position Summary
The Family Worker serves as a liaison between B’Above and families, promoting strong partnerships that support children’s social, emotional, and educational development. The Family Worker provides case management, family support services, referrals to community resources, and ensures compliance with program regulations and family engagement standards.
This role supports families in accessing needed services while fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally responsive environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Family Engagement & Support
- Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with families.
- Conduct screening and collect required documentation for enrollment.
- Complete family needs assessments and develop individualized family partnership plans.
- Monitor family goals and provide ongoing support.
- Conduct home visits (if applicable) in accordance with program guidelines.
- Facilitate parent meetings, workshops, and family engagement events.
- Provide crisis intervention and supportive counseling when needed.
Case Management
- Maintain up-to-date family files in compliance with licensing and regulatory standards.
- Track attendance, follow up on excessive absences, and document outreach efforts.
- Provide referrals to community resources including housing, food assistance, employment services, healthcare, and mental health services.
- Coordinate with teaching staff to support child and family needs.
- Assist families in accessing special education or early intervention services if necessary.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., OCFS, DOE, CACFP, Head Start Performance Standards, if applicable).
- Maintain accurate documentation of contacts, referrals, and follow-ups.
- Prepare reports as required by administration or funding agencies.
- Support annual program reviews and audits.
Community Outreach
- Develop partnerships with community organizations and service providers.
- Represent the center at community meetings and events.
- Assist with recruitment efforts to maintain full enrollment.
Collaboration & Teamwork
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and specialists to support whole-family services.
- Support center initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or Associate’s, Human Services, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, or related field preferred.
- Relevant experience may substitute for formal education where permitted by regulation.
Experience
- Minimum 1–2 years’ experience working with families and children.
- Experience in case management or community-based services preferred.
- Knowledge of child development and family systems.
Skills & Competencies

- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
- Knowledge of community resources and social service systems.
- Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple cases effectively.
- Cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse populations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and data entry systems.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to travel locally for home visits or community meetings (if required).
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
Work Environment
- Childcare setting with exposure to noise and active children.
- May require occasional evening or weekend events for family engagement.
Additional Requirements
- Background check clearance.
- Mandated Reporter Certification.
- Compliance with Department of Health and childcare licensing regulations.
