Position Summary:
Elysian Charter School is seeking a compassionate, student-centered School Nurse to join our collaborative team for the 2026–2027 school year. This position may be full-time or part-time, depending on candidate availability and school needs.
The School Nurse promotes the health, safety, and well-being of students and staff while supporting the school’s whole-child philosophy. The successful candidate is a collaborative, reflective healthcare professional who believes in building strong relationships, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment, and ensuring every student is healthy, supported, and ready to learn.
As an integral member of our school community, the School Nurse partners with educators, families, and healthcare providers to remove barriers to learning, promote wellness, and help every child thrive academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive school nursing services that promote student health, safety, wellness, and readiness to learn.
- Create a safe, positive, and inclusive health office environment where all students feel supported, respected, and cared for.
- Assess and manage student illnesses, injuries, and medical emergencies while providing timely nursing care and appropriate follow-up.
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individual Healthcare Plans (IHPs), Emergency Action Plans (EAPs), and accommodations for students with chronic medical conditions.
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, school policy, and New Jersey Department of Education regulations.
- Conduct required health screenings, maintain accurate student health records, and ensure compliance with state immunization and health requirements.
- Use health data to identify student needs, inform school health initiatives, and support continuous student well-being.
- Build strong relationships with students and partner with families to support their physical, social-emotional, and academic success.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists, counselors, administrators, Child Study Team members, and community healthcare providers to support school-wide goals and student success.
- Promote health education, disease prevention, and healthy lifestyle practices through student, staff, and family outreach.
- Maintain the health office, medical equipment, and supplies while ensuring all health and safety procedures are followed.
- Respond to communicable disease concerns and implement infection prevention protocols in accordance with local, state, and federal public health guidance.
- Participate actively in professional development, collaborative planning, faculty meetings, and school-wide events.
- Support school-wide wellness initiatives, emergency preparedness planning, field trips, and other community-building activities that contribute to a healthy school environment.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of student health information while adhering to FERPA, HIPAA, and professional nursing standards.
- Demonstrate flexibility, professionalism, and a commitment to continuous learning and reflective practice.
- Perform other duties as assigned and contribute positively to a collaborative, team-oriented school culture.
Qualifications:
- Current New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- New Jersey School Nurse Certification or eligibility for certification.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
- Experience in pediatric, community, or school nursing preferred.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and supporting the whole child.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a dynamic, student-centered school community.
Schedule:
Full-Time: Approximately 35–40 hours per week during the school year.
Part-Time: Flexible schedule based on school needs (typically 2–4 days per week).
