Product Design Engineer

Product Design Engineer Intern (Medical Devices)

About Medmiro

Medmiro is a growing early-stage medical device startup currently operating in stealth mode. We recently secured our first investment and were accepted into the 2026 AlphaLab accelerator. As we prepare to come out of stealth and launch publicly, we are advancing our products toward clinical validation and commercialization while building the foundation for long-term growth.

Medmiro is building a platform technology to modernize how surgical tubes are secured and managed across multiple clinical applications. Surgical tubes are used extensively throughout healthcare, yet many are still secured using methods that can be inconsistent, time-consuming, and prone to complications.

Our lead product is a securement device for feeding tubes designed to reduce accidental dislodgement, improve patient safety, and simplify routine care. We are also developing a next-generation product platform that extends this core technology to a broader range of surgical tubes and catheter applications.

We are looking for a highly motivated Product Design Engineer to help advance both products. This role provides a unique opportunity to work across the full product development lifecycle—from refining a mature design for usability studies and manufacturing to helping invent and prototype entirely new products.

What You'll Do

Advancing Our Lead Product, the G-guard (Primary Focus)

  • Refine and improve existing CAD designs
  • Advance the product toward a manufacturable, injection-moldable design
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles
  • Develop and evaluate high-fidelity prototypes for usability studies
  • Identify mechanical risks and iterate on design solutions
  • Work directly with the founder on technical decision-making and product strategy

Early-Stage Product Development (Secondary Focus)

  • Participate in customer discovery and product definition
  • Generate and prototype new product concepts
  • Explore mechanisms and product architectures
  • Help evaluate technical feasibility and product requirements
  • Support development of future platform applications

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (required)
  • Experience creating and managing complex CAD assemblies
  • Hands-on prototyping experience (3D printing, fabrication, testing, etc.)
  • Strong mechanical design and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-moving startup environment
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to iterate rapidly

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, BiomedicalEngineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
  • Experience with injection molding or plastic part design
  • Experience with medical devices, regulated products, or human-centered design
  • Experience with rapid prototyping and product testing

Why This Opportunity Is Different

  • Work directly with the founder of a venture-backed medical device startup
  • Gain experience across both late-stage product development and early-stage invention
  • Contribute to real medical devices moving toward clinical use
  • Develop skills in CAD, DFM, usability testing, prototyping, manufacturing, and product strategy
  • Meaningful ownership and influence over technical decisions
  • Opportunity to help shape the future direction of the company from the ground floor

Compensation & Growth Opportunity

This position will begin with a short trial period designed to ensure a strong mutual fit for both the candidate and Medmiro. During this initial phase, you'll work directly with the founder on meaningful product development projects while gaining hands-on experience in medical device design, prototyping, and commercialization.

Our goal is to transition the right candidate into a paid role as the company continues to grow. We're looking for someone excited by the opportunity to help build an early-stage startup from the ground up and become an integral part of the team over the long term.

We're looking for someone who wants more than just another internship. This is an opportunity to join an early-stage medical device startup at the ground floor, work directly with the founder, and help build products—and a company—from the earliest stages. If you're excited by ownership, rapid learning, and the chance to make a lasting impact, you'll likely find this experience incredibly rewarding.

Due to our current stealth stage, additional product information, prior work, and technical details can be shared with selected candidates.
