Job Description
Lightkeepers International is hiring an experienced After-School Chess Instructor to lead engaging, age-appropriate chess classes for Pre-K through 3rd grade students in Brooklyn. The ideal candidate is warm, reliable, classroom-ready, and skilled at making chess fun, accessible, and developmentally appropriate for young children. Similar Brooklyn programs emphasize after-school instruction, children’s programming experience, and strong communication with schools and families.
Responsibilities
- Lead after-school chess classes for young learners in a positive, structured environment.
- Teach chess fundamentals through play, storytelling, visuals, and age-appropriate practice.
- Differentiate instruction for beginners and students with developing skills.
- Manage classroom behavior with patience, professionalism, and care.
- Communicate clearly with program staff and school partners.
- Set up, organize, and maintain chess materials as needed.
Qualifications
- Experience teaching chess to children.
- Experience working with Pre-K, elementary, or early childhood students.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working in school-based settings.
- Passion for youth enrichment and making learning fun.
- Background check may be required.
Preferred
- Prior after-school, camp, tutoring, or classroom teaching experience.
- Experience teaching ages 3–8.
- Knowledge of beginner-friendly chess instruction methods.
