Startup Discovery Internship
Startup Discovery & Smart Ideas Internship
Fall 2026 (September • October • November Cohorts)
Offered by ESG Real Estate Lab
This Is Not a Traditional Internship
Most internships ask you to complete tasks.
This one asks you to discover the future.
The Startup Discovery & Smart Ideas Internship is designed for students who are curious about innovation, entrepreneurship, venture capital, emerging industries, and breakthrough business models.
Every week, thousands of startups are trying to solve problems that could reshape industries—from housing and finance to healthcare, AI, energy, mobility, and the future of cities. Most people never hear about them.
Your role is to find them.
You'll investigate innovative startups and growth-stage companies, understand what makes them different, evaluate whether their ideas have real potential, and communicate your findings through engaging, professional writing.
This internship is about becoming someone who can recognise opportunity before everyone else.
About ESG Real Estate Lab
ESG Real Estate Lab is a research and strategy organisation focused on innovation, entrepreneurship, technology, real estate, finance, and sustainability.
We work with startups, investors, family offices, universities, and industry leaders to identify emerging ideas and help students build practical skills that prepare them for careers in business.
We believe the ability to discover great companies, ask insightful questions, and communicate ideas clearly is one of the most valuable career skills you can develop.
About the Internship
During the programme, each student will research and analyse innovative startups and fast-growing companies developing new solutions across industries such as:
- Artificial Intelligence
- Real Estate & PropTech
- FinTech
- Climate Technology
- Healthcare Innovation
- Construction Technology
- Mobility & Transportation
- Robotics & Automation
- Energy & Infrastructure
- Future of Work
- Consumer Technology
Rather than simply describing a company, you'll investigate questions such as:
- What problem is this company trying to solve?
- Is the problem significant?
- Why is their solution different?
- Does the business model make sense?
- Who are the competitors?
- Could this become a major company?
- What risks could prevent success?
- Would you invest in it?
Your work will help identify companies that deserve greater attention while building your own ability to evaluate innovation.
What You'll Do
Throughout the internship you will:
- Discover promising startups and emerging businesses
- Research founders, products, industries, and competitors
- Analyse business models and market opportunities
- Assess commercial potential and investment attractiveness
- Write engaging 600–800 word company profiles and analyses
- Improve your writing through professional feedback
- Publish selected articles on LinkedIn with full student attribution
- Engage with founders and industry professionals where appropriate
What You'll Learn
This programme combines research, business analysis, communication, and critical thinking.
You'll develop skills in:
- Startup research
- Business model analysis
- Market research
- Competitive intelligence
- Venture capital thinking
- Strategic analysis
- Professional writing
- Storytelling for business
- Clear communication of complex ideas
- Asking better questions
- Building evidence-based opinions
These are the same skills used by consultants, investors, analysts, journalists, founders, and business leaders every day.
Why This Matters
Today's employers increasingly value students who can think independently—not simply repeat information.
By the end of the internship, you'll have demonstrated that you can:
- identify interesting companies before they become widely known
- understand how businesses create value
- analyse opportunities objectively
- communicate ideas clearly
- publish professional-quality work
- contribute meaningful insights to real business discussions
One well-written article about an innovative company can often demonstrate more initiative than a traditional coursework assignment.
What You'll Gain
Participants will leave with:
- A portfolio of published company analyses
- Stronger research and analytical skills
- Better professional writing ability
- Greater confidence evaluating startups and business ideas
- Exposure to founders, entrepreneurs, and investors
- Practical experience discussing innovation and emerging industries
