POSITION TITLE: Immersive Technologies Librarian
DEPARTMENT: Studio X, River Campus Libraries
STATUS: Temp (1-year appointment, with possibility of extension), Part-Time (20 hours/week)

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Immersive Technologies Librarian serves as a key instructional and outreach leader for the Mary Ann Mavrinac Studio X, advancing the use of extended reality (XR), artificial intelligence, and emerging immersive technologies in teaching, learning, and research across the University of Rochester. In partnership with the Director of Studio X, this position designs and delivers interdisciplinary instructional programming, cultivates campus partnerships, supports faculty and student projects, and leads outreach and marketing initiatives that expand awareness, engagement, and access to immersive technologies. The role also contributes to the strategic growth of Studio X by enabling scalable entry-level instruction and broad campus engagement in immersive and AI-enhanced learning environments.
Please note: This is a temporary, 1-year appointment, with the possibility for extension and/or transition to a permanent position. The position is part-time (20 hours/week) and located on-site in Rochester, NY. The selected candidate will be hired via Strong Staffing.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
XR Workshops and Programming: 35%
- Lead the planning, coordination, delivery, and assessment of Studio X workshops, events, and instructional programming
- Develop and teach XR and emerging technology workshops for courses, co-curricular programming, and the broader University community
- Coordinate programming logistics, including scheduling, communications, staffing, space preparation, and event execution
- Collaborate closely with the Director of Studio X to ensure programming aligns with Studio X’s strategic goals, instructional priorities, and brand standards
- Mentor and supervise student employees supporting programming and instructional activities
- Support immersive technology educational initiatives, including pre-college programming and Studio X credit-bearing courses
- Use data visualization, AI-assisted workflows, and assessment tools to help evaluate programming, track engagement, and inform operational decisions
- Explore and incorporate AI and emerging technologies into Studio X workflows, programming, and user support services
Outreach, Marketing, and Community Engagement: 30%
- Manage Studio X outreach and marketing initiatives in collaboration with the Director of Studio X
- Supervise and mentor the Studio X marketing student team, including hiring, onboarding, training, and project coordination
- Coordinate social media, newsletters, photography, digital storytelling, and promotional campaigns that document and communicate the impact of Studio X
- Develop outreach events, pop-ups, tours, and collaborative programming with campus and community partners
- Support student-led events and initiatives hosted through Studio X
- Build and maintain relationships across the Libraries and University to expand awareness of Studio X programming and services
XR Across the Curriculum and Research Support: 20%
- Build relationships with faculty, liaison librarians, and campus partners to support the integration of XR and AI-enabled technologies into teaching and research
- Consult with faculty and students on immersive technology projects, assignments, and research initiatives
- Stay current on XR, AI, and immersive learning trends, tools, and use cases relevant to higher education
- Recommend XR software, hardware, applications, and emerging technologies to support instructional and research needs
- Help refine Studio X workflows, support models, and documentation practices
Professional Development: 10%
- Maintain awareness of emerging trends, best practices, and professional communities related to XR, AI, and immersive learning
- Share knowledge and best practices with colleagues across the University Libraries
- Maintain Studio X knowledge management resources, including Zotero libraries, instructional materials, and collections of XR and AI use cases
Additional Responsibilities: 5%
- Assist with operational planning, student employee budgeting, and assessment activities
- Support faculty and student research projects through consultation, technical guidance, and collaborative problem solving
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of Studio X and the University Libraries’ immersive technology initiatives
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Experience and Skills
- Post-graduate degree in library and information science from an A.L.A.-accredited institution, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Teaching in formal or informal settings
- Experience with XR tools and platforms
- Experience with digital scholarship, maker spaces, or other emerging technology groups or spaces
- Aptitude for and willingness to learn and explore new and emerging technologies
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity
- Strong interpersonal skills and abilities
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Self-starter who is flexible, creative, and open to new challenges
COMPENSATION/BENEFITS
Hourly Range: $23 - $30
This position is not benefits-eligible.
