In Person | On Campus | Part-Time (Up to 17 Hours Weekly)
Hours: Monday - Friday, 2:30 – 6:00 p.m.
We are seeking a caring, dependable, and student-focused Aftercare Staff Member to provide a safe, nurturing, and Christ-centered environment for GRACE Christian School students during our after-school program. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children, builds positive relationships with students and families, and creates an atmosphere where students feel welcomed, valued, and cared for at the end of each school day.
This position is responsible for supervising students in grades as assigned, facilitating engaging indoor and outdoor activities, assisting with homework as needed, and ensuring the safety and well-being of every child in the program. The successful candidate will model Christlike character, encourage positive behavior, and help create an environment that reflects GRACE's mission, values, and Statement of Faith.
The ideal candidate is dependable, attentive, and enthusiastic about working with children. They will communicate professionally with parents, collaborate with the Aftercare Director and fellow staff members, and contribute to a positive, organized, and supportive after-school experience for students and families.
Job Purpose
The Aftercare Staff Member shall prayerfully help provide a safe, loving, and nurturing environment where students can grow socially, emotionally, academically, and spiritually while reflecting the love of Christ through daily interactions and supervision.
Spiritual Qualifications & Expectations
The Aftercare Staff Member shall:
- Profess faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and affirm GRACE's Statement of Faith, Mission, Vision, and Core Values.
- Model a Christ-centered lifestyle in attitude, speech, and conduct both in and out of school.
- Demonstrate Christlike love, patience, kindness, and respect in all interactions with students, families, and coworkers.
- Encourage students through positive relationships, biblical principles, and Christlike example.
- Follow biblical principles, including Matthew 18, in communication and conflict resolution.
- Support and actively participate in the spiritual and community life of the school.
Essential Responsibilities
Student Supervision & Care
- Provide attentive supervision of students at all times, maintaining awareness of each child's location and activities.
- Create a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment where students feel valued and supported.
- Plan and supervise age-appropriate activities, including indoor play, outdoor recreation, homework time, and snack time.
- Encourage positive behavior and implement Aftercare policies and discipline procedures consistently and respectfully.
- Build positive relationships with students while modeling kindness, respect, and Christlike character.
- Respond appropriately to student injuries or illnesses by following established first aid and emergency procedures.
- Maintain readiness to follow all school emergency protocols, including fire drills and lockdown procedures.
Communication & Collaboration
- Welcome parents and guardians during student pick-up and communicate professionally regarding their child's day as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate student attendance records, including sign-in and authorized check-out procedures.
- Communicate student concerns, behavioral issues, injuries, or other significant information promptly to the Aftercare Director.
- Collaborate with fellow Aftercare staff to ensure smooth daily operations and consistent student supervision.
- Attend Aftercare planning meetings and other required staff meetings as assigned.
School & Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe activity areas throughout the program and at the end of each day.
- Adhere to school policies, procedures, and the employee handbook.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, flexibility, emotional maturity, and dependability.
- Represent GRACE Christian School positively in interactions with students, families, coworkers, and the community.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of School, Principal, or Aftercare Director.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in education, child development, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with children in a school, childcare, camp, or similar setting preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to supervise groups of children while maintaining a safe and engaging environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and parents.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain if required).
Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and active supervision of students both indoors and outdoors. Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting up to 15 pounds may be required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
GRACE Code of Conduct for Faculty and Staff
- The staff member will manifest by precept and example the highest Christian virtue and personal decorum, serving as a Christian role model (1Timothy 4:12) both in and out of school to pupils (Luke 6:40), and as an example to all the GRACE family and fellow staff members in judgment, dignity, respect, and Christian living. This includes, but is not limited to, abstaining from drunkenness, illicit drugs, pornography, or the use of vulgar and profane language (Colossians 3:17, Titus 2:7-8, 1 Thessalonians 5:18, 22-23, and James 3:17-18). In addition, the staff member voluntarily limits his/her Christian liberty (to avoid being a stumbling block and to respect parental beliefs) by abstaining from the use of alcohol or tobacco at any school-related function.
- The staff member will faithfully attend and financially support a local church whose fundamental beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith of this school (Hebrews 10:25).
- The staff member accepts without verbal or mental reservation both the Statement of Faith and the Educational Philosophy and Objectives of GRACE Christian School and is committed to uphold them.
- The staff member has read this Job Description and agrees to abide by the requirements listed. The staff member will become familiar with both the Faculty/Staff Manual and Parent/Student Handbook and agrees to abide by them, as well as any additions made during the year. He/she agrees to cooperate in every way with the school authorities and adhere to the policies adopted by the GRACE Board of Trustees. Failure to do so may result in probation, fines, suspension without pay, or termination of employment.
- The staff member agrees to follow the biblical pattern of Matthew 18:15-17 and Galatians 6:1 and always give a good report, refraining from negative criticism and murmuring. All differences are to be resolved by utilizing biblical principles.
