Communications Intern
The Communications Intern will support the organization's efforts to raise public awareness about wrongful convictions, engage supporters, and advance fundraising and advocacy initiatives. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit communications, digital marketing, storytelling, social media management, media relations, and event promotion while contributing to the mission of securing justice for innocent individuals.
The ideal candidate is a strong writer, creative thinker, and detail-oriented communicator with an interest in nonprofit work, criminal justice reform, public policy, journalism, marketing, or public relations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Draft and edit content for newsletters, donor communications, website updates and fundraising campaigns.
- Assist in developing compelling stories highlighting exonerees, client cases, organizational milestones, and program impact.
- Conduct research and interviews to gather information for communication materials.
- Create and schedule social media content across platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, and YouTube.
- Help identify opportunities to expand audience reach and engagement.
- Assist with promotion of fundraising events, community presentations, and awareness campaigns.
- Create marketing materials including flyers, graphics, event programs, and digital advertisements.
- Update website content and maintain communication calendars.
- Ensure messaging aligns with the organization's mission, values, and brand standards.
Qualifications
Required
- Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Digital Media, or a related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Commitment to the mission of addressing wrongful convictions and advancing justice.
