Graduate Assistant–Instructional Design and Digital Accessibility Position

Department: SCSU Online and Distance Learning 

1 positions @ 20 hours/per work 

On campus – Office hours 8:00-4:30 pm 

Responsibilities 

The Graduate Assistant will work under the supervision of the Director of Online and Distance Learning or a designated project lead to support instructional design, digital accessibility, and faculty success initiatives. 

Contribute to instructional design projects that support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced learning experiences. 

Collaborate in the design, development, revision, and evaluation of faculty development programs, instructional resources, and learning experiences. 

Plan, facilitate, or co-facilitate workshops, consultations, and demonstrations focused on online, hybrid, Flexible (HyFlex), and technology-enhanced teaching and learning. 

Design and develop instructional resources, job aids, templates, tutorials, and examples that promote accessible, inclusive, and high-quality digital learning experiences. 

Contribute to departmental and institutional digital accessibility initiatives through chair/ committee support, resource development, accessibility reviews, project coordination, and continuous improvement efforts supporting ADA Title II implementation and sustaining efforts. 

Evaluate instructional materials and digital learning environments for accessibility, and contribute to the remediation of documents, presentations, multimedia, and course content using established accessibility standards and best practices. 

Provide consultation and support to faculty and students in the effective use of the University’s Learning Management System (currently D2L Brightspace) and related instructional technologies. 

Partner with faculty to develop accessible digital learning materials by applying Universal Design for Learning (UDL), accessibility best practices, and University-supported technologies. 

Participate as an active member of the Online and Distance Learning team by contributing to strategic initiatives, cross-functional projects, and continuous improvement efforts that strengthen instructional quality, digital accessibility, and student success. 

Partner with faculty to apply instructional design principles, quality standards, and evidence-informed practices to the design and continuous improvement of courses. 

Qualifications and Demonstrated Abilities 

Interest in instructional design, online learning, educational technology, or digital accessibility. 

Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. 

Ability to learn new technologies and work collaboratively with faculty and staff. 

Experience with or willingness to learn accessibility principles and best practices for digital content. 

Experience with or willingness to learn the University’s Learning Management System (currently D2L Brightspace). 

Experience with or willingness to learn Minnesota State technology resources, including Microsoft 365, MediaSpace, Zoom, and related instructional technologies. 

Learning Outcomes 

Develop practical experience supporting faculty in the design and delivery of online, hybrid, and Flexible (HyFlex) learning experiences. 

Develop competency in instructional design principles and quality standards for digital learning. 

Develop foundational knowledge of digital accessibility, including accessible documents, multimedia, and course design practices. 

Gain experience reviewing and improving instructional materials using accessibility best practices and University standards. 

Develop proficiency with the SCSU Learning Management System and related instructional technologies. 

Build consultation, communication, and project management skills while collaborating with faculty and campus partners. 

Actively participate on a diverse and inclusive team to support instructional innovation, digital accessibility, and the SCSU strategic plan framework. 

Preferred Qualifications 

Current graduate student in Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Information Media, Curriculum and Instruction, Learning Design, or a related field. 

Interest in online learning, instructional technology, accessibility, or faculty development. 

Experience creating digital learning materials or supporting technology-enhanced instruction is helpful but not required.
