POSITION SUMMARY

The Geoscience Department is seeking an experienced Geo 184 student to be a Teaching Assistant (TA) in Geo 184 for the Spring 2026 semester. 

 

  • Wednesday – 1:10 - 4:10 p.m. (lab time) TA must be available before lab time to pick up two vans for some labs and after lab time to return them.   Some field trips may extend beyond 4:10 p.m.
  • 1 hour for regular meeting with Professor Arens; meeting time to be determined

 

Job Requirements:

  • Successful completion of Geo 184
  • Successful completion of van certification after hiring
  • Ability to work well with peers, providing guidance on exercises
  • Proficiency in identifying the course suite of minerals and rocks and working with geological maps
  • Excellent field skills
  • Availability during the scheduled lab time 

 

Responsibilities

  • Drive van on field trips
  • Assist students with lab exercises and field work
  • Provide guidance and support to peers
  • Help identify minerals and rocks
  • Work with geological maps
  • Ensure a productive and supportive learning environment

Students hired into on-campus jobs must complete federal employment paperwork, including the Form I9. Students must present original documents indicating they are eligible to work in the U.S. Photocopies of documents cannot be accepted. Students should ensure they have their documents on campus or have a plan to get their documents to campus if they are hired to work on campus.
