CEM Machine is a 100% employee-owned ESOP, located in Carthage, NY. CEM is an essential employer that specialize in manufacturing custom industrial woodchippers that primarily support the pulp and paper industry.

We are hiring an experienced manual mill and lathe operator.

Education: Certified machinist papers preferred.

Experience: Minimum three years of experience.

• machinist papers is a plus
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and technical specifications
• Proficient with precision measuring tools
• Proficient in setting up and operating manual mills and lathes
• Ability to set up and program jobs independently on machines
• Knowledge of various metals and their machining properties preferred (aluminum, steel, stainless, etc.)
• Familiarity with large industrial mills and similar equipment is a plus

Responsibilities:

• Operate various metalworking machines such as CNC and/or manual lathes, mills, and grinders.
• Interpret engineering drawings to verify part specifications.
• Use micrometers and calipers to ensure that parts conform to design specifications and quality standards.
• Follow safety practices to protect oneself and others from hazards.
• Adhere to work order routings, managing time efficiently to meet production deadlines without compromising quality.
• Troubleshoot machining issues to minimize downtime and ensure continuous production.
• Collaborate with team members and departments to optimize workflow and drive continuous improvement.
• Perform routine maintenance on machinery to ensure accuracy and longevity.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace to ensure safety and efficiency.
• Document processes and results, providing detailed reports for quality assurance and production management.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout 8–10 hour shifts
• Ability to work safely around parts weighing thousands of pounds using cranes, hoists, and rigging
• Ability to manually operate large lathes and mills, including handwheels and controls
• Ability to handle tooling and fixtures up to 50 lbs, with mechanical assistance for heavier items
• Ability to wear required PPE and work safely in a noisy, industrial environment with hot chips and coolant
