Program Assistant

Expressive Path is a 75% mobile nonprofit organization based in Norristown, PA. We provide creative arts, music, and enrichment programming that empowers young people through artistic expression, personal growth, and community engagement.

We are currently seeking a dependable, energetic, and organized Program Assistant to support our Expressive Path Community Creators Friday Night Social Club. This weekly program provides a welcoming, creative, and inclusive environment where students ages 12 to 19 engage in arts, enrichment activities, social interaction, and community building.

The Program Assistant works alongside the Teaching Artist and Program Coordinator to help ensure each session runs smoothly by assisting with program preparation, participant support, activity facilitation, and cleanup.

Position Details

Compensation: $13.00 per hour

Schedule: Friday evenings (approximately 4–6 hours per week, depending on program needs)

Location: Expressive Path Creative Arts Center, Norristown, PA

Status: Part-Time

Additional hours may occasionally be available for special events, community programs, or seasonal activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with setting up classrooms, activity stations, and materials before each program
  • Welcome participants and help create a safe, positive, and inclusive environment
  • Support the Teaching Artist during creative arts and enrichment activities
  • Assist participants individually and in small groups as needed
  • Help manage supplies, prepare materials, and organize equipment
  • Monitor participant engagement and provide encouragement throughout activities
  • Assist with snack distribution and general program logistics, when applicable
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming program space
  • Complete cleanup and breakdown of materials following each session
  • Communicate professionally with participants, families, staff, and volunteers
  • Represent Expressive Path in a positive and professional manner
  • Perform additional program support duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience working with youth, families, or community programs preferred
  • Friendly, patient, and professional demeanor
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality
  • Ability to follow directions while taking initiative when needed
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and assist with setting up tables, chairs, and program materials

Clearance Requirements

Because this position involves working with youth, all Program Assistants must obtain and maintain the following Pennsylvania clearances before beginning employment:

  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check (Act 34)
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151)
  • FBI Fingerprint Clearance (Act 114), if applicable
  • Pennsylvania Mandated Reporter Training Certificate
