Program Assistant IV, Immigration & Deportation Defense Clinic

Job Summary:
The University of San Francisco, School of Law seeks a detail-oriented administrative and legal assistant with strong interpersonal skills who has some experience in immigration law. The School of Law established the Immigration and Deportation Defense Clinic in the spring of 2015 with the mission to represent unaccompanied children and family members who are in removal proceedings. The Program Assistant provides full-time administrative and legal support to the Immigration & Deportation Defense Clinic. The PA will serve as a critical point of contact for clients and the community.

Full Job Description:

Job Responsibilities:
- Schedule and maintain client meetings.
- This position will require working from the Sonoma County office on a regular basis
- Respond to telephone, e-mail, and in-person requests for clinic information and legal support inquiries.
- Prepare immigration and state court forms.
- File both immigration court documents and family court filings. 
- Assist with Spanish translations of client documents.
- Assist attorneys when interpreting is needed in preparation for hearings and at Asylum Office interviews.
- Provide program management services, including, but not limited to;- overseeing office management protocols and procedures, coordinating and monitoring client service delivery, tracking client data in multiple data management systems
- and preparing and submitting regular grant reports


- Additional duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Requirements:
- Understanding and commitment to USF's mission, vision, and values.
- Strong demonstrated commitment to immigrant communities.
- Ability to speak and write both Spanish and English fluently is required.
- Ability for careful, conscientious work even when managing multiple projects at one time;
- Excellent judgment and respect for confidentiality; solid oral and written communication skills; a professional and responsive demeanor; and a cooperative spirit.
- Experience with or the ability to work with a diverse student body, faculty and staff.  Strong equity lens, cultural humility and proven ability to work well in a diverse context.
- Post high school education preferred.
- Three or four years of increasingly responsible experience in administrative support work or related education.  Years of experience will depend on level hired.
- Must be organized and able to work on many projects at the same time.
- Experience working with computer database systems, word processing and spreadsheet software, including Microsoft Word.
- Must be customer service and team oriented.

 

Additional Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Must have a driver's license; California travel is required to our Sonoma County Office.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Office setting. Position currently requires presence in the office approximately 75 percent of the time

May be required to lift objects up to 25lbs on occasion.

Full-Time/Part-Time:
Full time

Pay Rate:
Hourly

Salary Range :
$34.00 - $37.00/hour; commensurate with experience
