Hedge Fund Internship — Forensic Research & Investment Thesis Development

ESGreLab is partnering with an emerging activist hedge fund based in New York City to offer an exclusive internship opportunity for 4 highly motivated students interested in hedge funds, investment research, and activist investing.
This is a unique opportunity to work closely with a startup hedge fund managed by experienced finance professionals with decades of investment and market expertise.
The internship will run from September through December, with the potential opportunity for a longer-term role or future offer depending on the student’s academic year, performance, and fit with the investment team.
Role: Forensic Research & Investment Thesis Development
This role represents the core analytical engine of the investment process. Selected students will support research that contributes directly to idea generation, company analysis, and investment thesis development.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct deep-dive financial statement analysis
- Identify accounting anomalies, financial risks, and potential red flags
- Perform peer benchmarking and valuation analysis
- Support development of long-form investment theses (long and short ideas)
- Conduct catalyst mapping and scenario analysis
- Research companies, industries, and market trends relevant to investment opportunities
Key Work Outputs:
- Investment research memos
- Accounting risk assessments
- Company analysis reports
- Pre-engagement analytical briefs
- Supporting materials for investment discussions
- Role in the Investment Process:
Your research will directly contribute to the hedge fund’s idea generation, due diligence process, and investment thesis formation.
