Information Technology Intern

Remote Position - College Credit*

Time Commitment: Minimum 6 Months / 6-10 hours per week (Seasonal/Temporary) Flexible schedule based on school schedules.

General Description: The Information Technology intern will work closely with the Executive Team at Digital4Good, a nonprofit empowering youth through technology, to support technology systems that keep the organization running smoothly. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, tech-savvy student interested in network security, cloud computing, data privacy, and IT system setup. You will gain hands-on experience with software implementation, troubleshooting, and cybersecurity, privacy, and business continuity best practices while helping maintain a secure, efficient, and resilient environment for staff and volunteers..

Duties:

  • Assist with implementing data privacy policies, monitoring access controls, and safeguarding personal and organizational data in compliance with privacy standards
  • Assist in evaluating weaknesses of current systems to identify and recommend more efficient, cost-effective alternative solutions.
  • Report suspected privacy breaches promptly and support cybersecurity and data privacy training efforts
  • Set up and configure IT systems for new users, including accounts and software access
  • Maintain and monitor cloud services, network security, and troubleshoot technical issues
  • Assist in maintaining and updating the organization’s Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans
  • Support testing and documentation of backup procedures and recovery processes to help ensure critical IT services remain available or can be restored quickly during disruptions
  • Recommend and help implement new technology tools to improve IT processes, organizational efficiency, and operational resilience
  • Maintain clear communication with team members on the status of assigned project(s) through weekly meetings with the team and supervisor
  • Attend quarterly Advisory Steering Committee meetings

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a major in information technology, computer science, cybersecurity, or a related field
  • Familiarity with basic networking concepts and cloud services
  • Interest in cybersecurity, data privacy, business continuity, IT support, and system administration
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively
  • Comfortable with remote collaboration tools (Google Workspace, ClickUp, etc.)
  • Passion for technology, youth empowerment, and social impact

Learning Objective/Outcomes: 

Upon completion of the internship, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of privacy principles, data protection regulations, and cybersecurity best practices
  • Understand the basics of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning in a nonprofit IT environment
  • Configure, manage, and troubleshoot IT systems, cloud services, user accounts, and remote setups
  • Document workflows, maintain system records, and recommend improvements to IT processes, privacy safeguards, and operational resilience

Evaluation: 

  • IT Support & Troubleshooting: Ability to respond to and resolve technical issues efficiently
  • Security and Privacy Awareness: Proper implementation of security protocols and privacy best practices
  • Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery: Contribution to related activities, including documentation and testing support
  • Commitment: Participate in weekly meetings and check-ins (Minimum of 75% attendance)
  • Documentation & Organization: Maintain clear and accurate IT records, documentation, and continuity plans
  • Engagement: Accumulate points for engaging with organizational social media pages, attending workshops and events, participating in marketing activities, completing surveys, and finishing projects/campaigns
