Microbiology Intern

Kioga is seeking a microbiology intern to support our microbial strain discovery platform. This hands-on laboratory role will focus on isolating and characterizing novel environmental bacteria with potential applications in human health and nutrition.

Responsibilities

  • Isolate, culture, and characterize bacterial strains from environmental samples
  • Perform routine microbiology workflows using sterile technique
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and strain inventories
  • Follow established protocols and help draft or improve SOPs
  • Support basic phenotypic testing and sample preparation for downstream analysis

Qualifications

  • Senior undergraduate or recent graduate in microbiology, biology, biotechnology, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience with aseptic technique and microbial culture
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and laboratory documentation
  • Comfortable working independently after training and following defined procedures
