SMTD Admissions & Recruitment Assistant

Job Title: Admissions & Recruitment Student Assistant — School of Music, Theatre and Dance

Department: Oakland University School of Music, Theatre and Dance (SMTD)

Hours: 10–20 hours/week, flexible scheduling around class schedule. Responsibility amount varies following recruitment and audition timelines. Some periods may be slower while others are much heavier.

Position Overview:
SMTD is seeking a detail-oriented student worker to support admissions, recruitment, and outreach efforts. This role assists with audition-cycle logistics, recruitment event materials, and general administrative support for the department's admissions operations. Great opportunity for a student interested in higher ed administration, arts administration, or marketing/communications.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with communication, scheduling, and operating the “Be a Major for a Day” program for SMTD
  • Assist with data entry and organization for audition scheduling and applicant tracking
  • Help prepare recruitment materials (flyers, social content, event signage) for auditions and recruitment events (e.g., festivals, open houses)
  • Support communication with prospective students and families (email correspondence, scheduling confirmations)
  • Assist with light data organization for faculty-facing audition reporting
  • Provide on-site support at audition days and recruitment events as needed
  • Other administrative tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled OU student in good standing
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office/Google Workspace; experience with Canva, spreadsheets, or CRM/database tools a plus
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain confidentiality with sensitive student records
  • Interest in music, theatre, dance, or arts administration a plus but not required

Important Notes:

  • This position involves access to sensitive/protected student data (FERPA-covered records). Candidate must agree to data handling policies before starting.
  • Some evening/weekend availability may be needed for recruitment events and audition days.
