Software Engineer

Overview

Professional Ag Marketing is starting a technology team, and we are hiring developers to build it. The team builds custom software and tools for our customers: dashboards, web and mobile apps, AI assistants, automations, and the data work behind them. A customer might be doing something by hand today that we can automate, or have an idea they have never had the time to build. That is where we come in. We turn it into software they can use to run their operations and make better decisions.

You would be one of the first engineers on the team, writing the software our customers use every day. There is no senior engineer above you yet, so you need to be able to build and ship on your own, and the first stretch will be heavy on learning the business and building fast. We invest in your growth the whole way.

Responsibilities

• Turn a customer's problem or idea into a working tool: a dashboard, a web or mobile app, an AI assistant, an automation, or custom software.
• Automate manual work, and build the tools customers have wanted but never had the time to build.
• Pull data from a range of production systems and sources into one clean, reliable place.
• Build AI assistants that answer plain questions from a customer's own data.
• Take your work from design through build, deployment, and ongoing support.
• Work as part of a small team, and directly with the customers you build for.
• Between projects, learn the platforms we build today with outside partners, Pro Ag Power and PowerAI, front and back, so we can run them in-house over time.

Required qualifications

• Strong across the full stack, with solid computer science fundamentals and command of at least one modern language (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or C#).
• A track record of shipping software that people use, from first line of code to production.
• Able to own a project end to end on your own: design, build, deploy, and maintain it.
• Comfortable working in and on a team, and explaining technical decisions clearly to people who are not technical.
• Experience building with AI or large language models (OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, or Anthropic).
• Experience working with data: SQL, building pipelines, and cleaning up messy sources.
• Working knowledge of the Microsoft and Azure stack: Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, and .NET.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience delivering software without close supervision: a startup, freelance or contract work, or your own projects with real users.
• Interest or background in agriculture, commodities, or business.
• Depth in the Microsoft Power Platform.
