Jon Thomas Consulting supports nonprofits, associations, and mission-driven organizations with fundraising, development, government affairs, communications, events, and organizational strategy.
We are seeking a motivated, dependable, and positive intern to support our Development Department in Cleveland, Ohio. This internship is ideal for someone interested in gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, event planning, marketing, and donor engagement.
Location and Transportation Requirements
Candidates must live in or near the Greater Cleveland area and be available to attend local meetings, events, and project-related activities, including nights and weekends.
Because some assignments and events take place at locations that may not be accessible by public transportation, candidates must have:
- A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle; or
- Another dependable form of transportation that allows them to travel independently throughout the Cleveland area.
This is a hybrid position and is not fully remote.
Position Overview
The Nonprofit Management & Fundraising Intern will assist with fundraising, grant research, event coordination, marketing, social media, and administrative projects for Jon Thomas Consulting and its nonprofit clients.
The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, comfortable managing multiple priorities, and passionate about supporting nonprofit organizations and community-based initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Research prospective foundation, corporate, government, and individual funding opportunities.
- Assist with preparing grant materials, donor communications, sponsorship proposals, and gift requests.
- Support the planning and execution of in-person and virtual fundraising events.
- Coordinate event logistics, including RSVPs, ticketing, seating arrangements, guest communications, and event materials.
- Assist with event-day setup, guest registration, breakdown, and other on-site responsibilities.
- Maintain accurate electronic records, reports, and event information.
- Help develop and schedule social media content for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and other platforms.
- Monitor social media engagement and assist with evaluating campaign performance.
- Create or edit basic graphics, photos, videos, email campaigns, and promotional materials.
- Respond professionally to event-related questions and provide excellent customer service.
- Research nonprofit, fundraising, marketing, and social media trends and best practices.
- Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
- Professional, dependable, and comfortable communicating with clients, donors, vendors, volunteers, and event attendees.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Experience with Canva, Constant Contact, Mailchimp, Neon CRM, Salesforce, or similar platforms is preferred but not required.
- Experience with social media management, copywriting, photography, video editing, or graphic design is a plus.
