Fall 2026 | Resource Sharing/Interlibrary Loan Student Assistant

Student Employee –Work Study- Alkek Library – Resource Sharing/Interlibrary Loan Unit

 

The Interlibrary Loan unit at Alkek Library employs 3-4 student workers each semester.  Student employees work no more than 25 hours a week during long semesters.  The pay rate is $10.00/hr.  Employees must be able to follow detailed instruction and work independently with minimal supervision.  Various duties include but are not limited to:

  • processing Interlibrary Loan lending requests using ILLiad software (extensive training provided)
  • answering ILL and library related questions when approached by the university community
  • searching the catalog and FOLIO for requested material
  • printing and sorting pull slips for retrieval of material
  • locating and pulling materials in the library stacks using the Library of Congress call number system
  • scanning slips to the RRC campus using the copier/scanner
  • checking out library material in FOLIO and ILLiad
  • processing outgoing materials by updating and ensuring proper paperwork is complete
  • packaging materials for shipment through US mail and alternate couriers
  • assist in troubleshooting printers and scanners in the immediate work area
  • restocking paper and office supplies when needed
  • scanning articles to borrowing universities and libraries
  • opening and sorting incoming US mail and packages
  • processing incoming materials by updating and ensuring proper paperwork is complete

Student employees must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, bend down and reach overhead for materials and push a book cart weighing between 50-100 lbs.
