Kutztown University Graduate Assistantship: Research Projects Assistant
This assistantship is open to graduate students from all social and behavioral disciplines. A DSW student preferred. The position integrates students into the research endeavors of social work faculty, which cover a diverse array of topics such as child welfare, School Social work, gerontology, mental health, and substance use disorders prevention and treatment. It also offers opportunities for doctoral students to engage in Doctoral level research that enables completion of dissertations. Faculty also conduct classroom-related research in teaching and learning. Ongoing research topics include longitudinal studies on student attitudes toward poverty, factors influencing child abuse and neglect in Pennsylvania counties, domestic violence and abuse, social isolation in rural areas, family friendliness at the county level, and workforce issues in child welfare. These projects are at various stages, allowing graduate assistants to engage in every aspect of the research process.
Students will develop research skills by participating in literature reviews, instrument construction and validation, data collection, and both qualitative and quantitative analysis. The assistantship also provides opportunities for report writing and presentation of findings. Training will be provided in statistical analysis software (SPSS), GIS software, NVivo qualitative analysis software, and Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint. Assistants will support faculty research for publications and presentations and may contribute to accreditation-related program assessment for BSW, MSW, DSW, and the School Social Work Certificate programs.
This position is for 20 hours/week and it provides a tuition waiver for 9 graduate credits, plus a stipend of $3,750 per semester. Please contact Dr. Christopher Harris for additional information at harris@kutztown.edu
