Operations Manager
Operations Manager
BattleGR — Comstock Park, MI (Grand Rapids area)
$48,000–$55,000/year + commission + performance bonus · Full-time · Saturdays and some evenings
No two days look the same here. If that sounds exhausting, this isn't your job. If it sounds like fun, keep reading.
BattleGR is where Grand Rapids comes to celebrate — laser tag, axe throwing, archery tag, VR, escape rooms, corporate events, and a mobile division that rolls the party right into a client's backyard. On any given weekend we might be running a 200-person company outing, three birthday parties, and a trailer across town, all at once.
We're looking for the person who makes all of that look effortless.
This is a floor-first leadership role, not a desk job. You'll report directly to the owner and be trusted to run the building. You'll be out with guests, shoulder to shoulder with your team, making sure every group that walks through our doors leaves saying "that was awesome." You set the tone — and the tone here is warm, welcoming, and concierge-level.
What you'll do
Own the guest experience
- Be the face of BattleGR during events — greeting groups, checking in on parties, anticipating what a host needs before they ask
- Deliver true concierge service: solve problems before guests know they exist, and turn a good event into a story they tell for years
- Handle the rare hiccup with grace, on the spot
Lead the team
- Hire, train, schedule, and develop our event staff and game guides
- Run pre-shift huddles and set the energy for the night
- Coach in the moment — and hold a high bar for service and safety
Run the operation
- Open and close the building; make sure every activity, lane, and piece of equipment is ready, safe, and looking sharp
- Own safety standards, staff certifications, and incident procedures
- Manage inventory, supplies, and equipment maintenance
- Run our mobile division — load-outs, dispatch, and on-site execution at client locations
- Manage labor cost against the week's booked business
Grow the business
- Spot on-site upsells and repeat-booking opportunities — you earn commission on what you sell
- Work hand in hand with our events and sales team so nothing gets lost between "booked" and "flawless"
What we're looking for
Required
- Management experience — you've led, scheduled, and developed a team before
- Availability to work Saturdays and some evenings (see the schedule note below)
- Comfortable being on your feet for a full shift and lifting event equipment
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
A big plus
- ServSafe and/or TIPS certification
- Background in hospitality, events, restaurants, hotels, or entertainment
You'll thrive here if you…
- Light up around people, and make strangers feel welcome within ten seconds
- Get the best out of your team without being a jerk about it
- Stay calm when the plan changes at 6:45 for a 7:00 event
- Are as comfortable running a party as you are fixing what's broken and mopping what's spilled
- Sweat the details — cleanliness, timing, safety, the little touches
The schedule, honestly
Saturdays are our biggest day, so Saturdays are part of the job. Beyond that, your evenings follow the event calendar — some weeks are busier than others.
Here's the part most places won't offer: when Saturday is slow, you take it off, or come in early and have the night free. We don't believe in keeping you here just to keep you here. If you've been burned by hospitality schedules before, this is a real change.
What we offer
- $48,000–$55,000/year, based on experience
- 2–5% commission on upsells and groups sold
- Performance bonus tied to labor cost and guest satisfaction survey results — hit your numbers, get paid for it [add target/amount here]
- 2 weeks paid time off
- IRA with company match
- $150/month toward health insurance
- Family discount on BattleGR events and rentals
- A direct line to the owner. Your ideas get heard and implemented, not filed away.
- Room to grow. This is our senior on-site role today, with a clear path to General Manager as you take more off the owner's plate.
- A workplace where "I had fun at work today" is a normal sentence
How to apply
Details matter in this job, so here's a quick one: include the word "BULLSEYE" in your subject line or message.
Then tell us: (1) the best guest-experience moment you've ever created or witnessed, and (2) how you'd handle a birthday party host whose 20 guests just became 32 with no warning.
