Overview

Join our vibrant early childhood education team as a Preschool Teacher and ignite a love of learning in young children! The Oak Park River Forest Day Nursery (The Day Nursery) is a not-for-profit early childhood organization located in Oak Park, Illinois. Our mission is to provide exceptional early childhood education in an environment that welcomes all children, enhancing individual strengths, and fostering the academic, social-emotional, and physical development that leads to school readiness. This position is for a four-month contract starting in August which may be extended.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an age-appropriate curriculum that incorporates social-emotional, physical, language, cognitive, literacy, math, the arts, science and technology, and social studies learning activities to support early childhood development.
  • Create a safe, inclusive classroom environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and social interaction among children.
  • Manage classroom activities effectively through strong classroom management and behavior management strategies to promote positive behavior.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about their child's progress, milestones, and any concerns, fostering a collaborative partnership.
  • Conduct child development assessments to monitor progress and tailor instruction accordingly.
  • Incorporate special education techniques and early intervention strategies to support children with diverse learning needs.
  • Maintain compliance with mandated reporting laws and ensure adherence to health and safety standards such as first aid and CPR certification.

Minimum Requirements

  • Meet the Illinois DCFS Teacher requirements as outlined in Child Care Licensing Standards Section 407.150.
  • Possess Childhood Development Associate (CDA), Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development/Early Childhood Education or related field with 18 semester hours of college coursework in early childhood education.
  • Possess an Illinois Paraprofessional Educator License.
  • Possess an Illinois Gateways ECE Credential Level 4 or higher (or be working towards this credential).
  • Be able to lift children up to 50 lbs. if necessary.

Skills

  • Proven experience working with children in preschool or daycare settings, demonstrating a deep understanding of childhood development principles.
  • Strong skills in curriculum development, lesson planning, classroom management, and behavior management techniques.
  • Experience with Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies GOLD.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with young children, parents, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Classroom experience involving 3- to 5-year-olds (Preferably Preschool for All and/or Head Start).
  • Familiarity with special education practices, early intervention programs, and childhood welfare policies.
  • Certification in first aid and CPR (or obtain within first 30 days of employment); knowledge of mandated reporting laws applicable to childcare providers.
