Associate Attorneys, Paralegals, Legal Assistants, Librarians, and Receptionists

The Cochran Firm – Huntsville, P.C. is accepting applications for current and future legal and administrative employment opportunities at our Huntsville, Alabama office. We are interested in qualified candidates for the following positions:

  • Associate Attorneys
  • Paralegals
  • Legal Assistants
  • Legal File Clerks / Records Librarians
  • Receptionists / Administrative Assistants

Our firm represents clients in personal injury and civil litigation matters. Successful candidates must demonstrate professionalism, strong communication skills, careful attention to detail, sound judgment, dependability, and respect for confidential and privileged information.

Associate Attorney Responsibilities

Associate Attorneys may be responsible for:

  • Managing personal injury and civil litigation matters;
  • Conducting legal research and preparing written legal analysis;
  • Drafting pleadings, motions, discovery, briefs, correspondence, and other legal documents;
  • Communicating with clients, opposing counsel, insurance representatives, medical providers, experts, and court personnel;
  • Taking and defending depositions;
  • Preparing for hearings, mediations, and trials;
  • Monitoring litigation deadlines and court requirements; and
  • Assisting with case strategy, evaluation, and resolution.

Associate Attorney candidates must possess a Juris Doctor degree and must be licensed to practice law in Alabama, eligible for admission, or awaiting bar examination or admission results. Strong legal research, writing, advocacy, organization, and client-management skills are required.

Paralegal Responsibilities

Paralegals may assist with:

  • Drafting and reviewing discovery, correspondence, pleadings, notices, and other litigation documents;
  • Organizing and summarizing medical records, billing records, insurance documents, and case materials;
  • Preparing medical chronologies, damages summaries, deposition materials, and trial notebooks;
  • Managing case files, deadlines, document production, and litigation calendars;
  • Communicating with clients, medical providers, insurance representatives, and court personnel; and
  • Supporting attorneys during discovery, mediation, deposition, and trial preparation.

Preferred candidates will have prior paralegal, litigation, personal injury, legal studies, or law-office experience. A paralegal certificate, associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or comparable experience is preferred but not required for every candidate.

Legal Assistant Responsibilities

Legal Assistants may be responsible for:

  • Preparing and proofreading correspondence and legal documents;
  • Maintaining electronic and physical case files;
  • Requesting and following up on medical records, billing records, liens, insurance documents, and other evidence;
  • Scheduling appointments, depositions, hearings, and meetings;
  • Tracking deadlines and maintaining calendars;
  • Communicating professionally with clients and outside offices;
  • Performing data entry, document management, and general litigation-support tasks; and
  • Assisting attorneys and paralegals with daily case-management needs.

Candidates should possess strong organizational, writing, proofreading, computer, telephone, and time-management skills.

Legal File Clerk / Records Librarian Responsibilities

Legal File Clerks and Records Librarians may assist with:

  • Organizing, indexing, scanning, naming, and maintaining electronic and physical files;
  • Processing incoming records, correspondence, court filings, discovery, and medical documentation;
  • Confirming that documents are saved in the correct client files and categories;
  • Maintaining accurate document indexes and records logs;
  • Locating and retrieving requested documents;
  • Identifying duplicate, incomplete, or missing records;
  • Protecting confidential client information; and
  • Supporting attorneys and staff with document-management projects.

Candidates must be highly organized, accurate, dependable, and comfortable working with large volumes of documents and confidential information.

Receptionist / Administrative Assistant Responsibilities

Receptionists and Administrative Assistants may be responsible for:

  • Greeting clients and visitors professionally;
  • Answering, screening, and routing telephone calls;
  • Recording complete and accurate messages;
  • Scheduling appointments and maintaining office calendars;
  • Processing mail, deliveries, faxes, and incoming documents;
  • Assisting with data entry, document preparation, scanning, and filing;
  • Maintaining reception and common office areas; and
  • Providing general administrative support to attorneys and staff.

Candidates must have professional telephone etiquette, strong interpersonal skills, reliability, discretion, and the ability to remain organized in a busy office environment.

General Qualifications

Depending on the position, qualified candidates should possess some or all of the following:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments;
  • Ability to meet deadlines and follow detailed instructions;
  • Professional judgment and respect for confidentiality;
  • Dependability and a strong work ethic;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and general office technology;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively;
  • Prior legal, litigation, administrative, records-management, or customer-service experience; and
  • Interest in personal injury, civil litigation, trial practice, or client advocacy.

Prior law-office experience is preferred for legal positions but is not required for every entry-level administrative position.
