  • Pay Type: $22 Hourly, Non-Exempt (Yearly Stipend & Free CUNY College Credits Included)

Organizational Overview:

Henry Street Settlement's Education and Employment Services Division is a $15.5 million division serving more than 9,000 individuals annually through a continuum of services ranging from Early Childhood Education to Adult Workforce Development. The division provides programs designed to help individuals develop the skills necessary for lifelong success and self-sufficiency.

Education Services include Early Childhood Education, After-School and Camp Services, Athletics and Community Enrichment, Community Schools, the Expanded Horizons College Success Program, and the Youth Opportunity Hub. Programs are delivered across community-based centers and school-based sites throughout the Lower East Side.

 

Program Overview:

Henry Street Settlement has partnered with PASE and Change Impact to participate in the Dual Impact Workforce Development Program. This two-year professional development initiative supports emerging youth development professionals through coaching, training, college coursework, mentorship, and career advancement opportunities.

 

Job Summary:

The Dual Impact Program Activity Specialist is responsible for providing high-quality after-school programming for youth in grades K–8 while participating in a structured two-year workforce development program. Activity Specialists will implement engaging enrichment, recreation, and social-emotional learning activities while developing professionally through coaching, training, networking opportunities, and college coursework.

This position is ideal for emerging youth development professionals who are committed to building a career in education, youth services, social work, recreation, or related fields.

 

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements of the Dual Impact Program
  • Possess a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency.
  • Have not completed a college degree and/or be enrolled in college part-time.
  • Be employed and remain in good standing with Henry Street Settlement.
  • Commit to maintaining employment from September 2026 through June 2028.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with youth in after-school, camp, recreation, educational, or community-based settings preferred.
  • Knowledge of Positive Youth Development principles.
  • Ability to engage and support youth from diverse backgrounds and varying academic levels.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with supervisors, teachers, families, and community partners.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn, grow professionally, and participate in workforce development opportunities.
  • Flexible, dependable, and team oriented.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the Dual Impact OST Workforce Development Program throughout the two-year commitment period.
  • Facilitate engaging enrichment, recreation, academic support, and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) activities for youth in grades K–8.
  • Assist with classroom management and student engagement using positive youth development practices.
  • Implement approved lesson plans and curriculum activities.
  • Create opportunities for youth to explore interests, develop skills, and build confidence.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Monitor participant progress through observations, surveys, and informal assessments.
  • Attend and actively engage in the required fall retreat (overnight option available; commuting permitted if necessary).
  • Complete approximately 24 hours of self-paced training over two years.
  • Participate in coaching and support sessions as required.
  • Attend networking and mentorship events annually.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors and coaches to establish and achieve professional development goals.
  • Explore opportunities for higher education, credential attainment, and career advancement.

 

Essential Physical Job Functions:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and actively engage with children for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to participate in indoor and outdoor recreational activities.
  • Ability to lift and carry program materials and equipment as needed.
