Waiver Eligibility Specialist

Job Title:  Waiver Eligibility Specialist    

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience and within budget constraints.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience: At least two years experience in program intake or customer service in private industry or public grant funded programs such as those under the Older Americans Act. Experience in completing Medicaid applications.  Familiarity with record keeping and filing systems is desirable.  Knowledge of community organizations serving seniors is preferred.

Requirements: Has excellent interpersonal and group process skills.  Is accurate, conscientious and flexible with attention to detail. Is familiar with computers and can work within multiple systems. Accepts direction, is well organized, and has the ability to meet deadlines.  Position requires excellent customer service skills.  Willingness to work in a team environment. General Job Description: Works in a team environment to assist in maintaining eligibility for community service programs. Makes home visits to gather appropriate documentation for Medicaid eligibility. Also assists with administration and program tasks when necessary.

Physical Requirements: Regularly required to sit for extended periods of time. Regularly spend long hours using office equipment including computers . Regularly work on repetitive tasks and motions . Ability to lift up to 20 pounds  

Duties:

  • Assists participants in applying for assistance programs such as Medicaid, Food Assistance, Section 8 Housing, and other programs.
  • Achieving and maintaining participant eligibility in MDHHS Medicaid, MI-Choice Waiver and Related Programs (SER/FAP).
  • Coordinating with participants to obtain necessary documentation for regular MDHHS determinations.
  • Completing and analyzing various reports to track changes in participant eligibility.
  • Communicating with MDHHS regarding changes in participant’s eligibility for community services.
  • Assuring continuity of internal TSA data with State of Michigan systems.
  • Verify Medicaid eligibility for Waiver.
  • Maintains and inputs a record keeping system that includes all required data for the waiting lists and eligibility documentation for the Community Care department programs.
  • Completes word processing, data entry, administrative support and budget records for the Community Care Department and agency.
  • Responsible for various programs and projects as assigned.
  • Handles other duties as assigned.
