Solar Safety Manager — Job Description
The Solar Safety Manager leads the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) functions at the project site level, with a specialized focus on BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems). This leadership role is responsible for the direction and oversight of the project EHS team, ensuring the continuous improvement of safety programs and full compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
Expected Responsibilities
- Lead EHS functions and provide daily direction, oversight, and professional development to the project EHS team
- Implement and monitor specialized safety protocols for BESS installation and commissioning, including thermal runaway prevention, fire suppression systems, and electrical hazard mitigation
- Partner strategically with project and construction leadership to influence a proactive safety culture
- Support the maintenance, implementation, and monitoring of comprehensive site EHS programs and compliance plans
- Identify and evaluate complex environmental, health, and safety risks, developing effective mitigation strategies
- Ensure accurate record-keeping and maintenance of all site-specific safety documentation and credentials
- Prioritize and delegate tasks effectively to ensure all safety objectives are met with high attention to detail
- Facilitate high-level safety communications and act as the primary EHS point of contact for project stakeholders
Minimum Requirements
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety preferred, or at least five years of leadership experience in a related safety or industrial field
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and ability to safely operate a company vehicle
- Willingness and ability to travel to projects across multiple states
- Strong background in industrial safety compliance within the power-generation industry
Desired Skills and Qualifications
- Deep knowledge of OSHA standards, industrial safety regulations, and DOT/DOL/EPA compliance
- Technical expertise in BESS safety protocols and electrical hazard management
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage, coach, and inspire a diverse EHS team
