The Community Youth Center of San Francisco (CYC) provides the youth of our city a sense of belonging and vital tools and experiences to succeed in life. Our services include academic support and college counseling, job placement and employment training, substance use and violence prevention education, crisis intervention and mediation, leadership development, technology and computer training. Title: Young Adult Worklink+ Intern
Salary: $20.00 - $23.50 per hour
Reports to: Program Coordinator
Status: Temporary Part Time (15-16 hours/week); Non-Exempt
(Position Ends: 11/20/2026)
MCO Classification: This role is classified as MCO-exempt under San
Francisco Administrative Code Article 111 for employees under 19
working in after-school or summer programs who are claimed as
dependents for federal tax purposes. If the exemption criteria cease to
be met (turns 19, not a dependent, or hours extend beyond after-
school/summer), compensation will be adjusted immediately according
to the applicable SF MCO rate.
Program Summary:
The Young Adult Worklink Program (YAWL) provides job readiness and employment support services to youth ages 16-24. The program offers 1:1 job search and career coaching, work based learning internships, college and career exploration, and job shadowing opportunities to propel youth and young adults to be ready for college, work and reach productive adulthood.
Position Description:
The Young Adult Worklink+ Intern will work closely with a worksite mentor to gain hands-on experience and insight into daily operations across various tasks. Over the course of 12 weeks, the intern will observe and assist with key responsibilities, gradually developing transferable skills applicable to any professional environment. This position is designed to provide exposure to real-world work settings, offering the opportunity to build communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. The intern will actively participate in ongoing projects, learning best practices and techniques from their mentor. By the end of the internship, the intern will have gained valuable experience that enhances their professional growth and readiness for future career opportunities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Observe and assist with daily operations and workflows
- Contribute ideas and participate in conversations
- Assist in gathering and organizing information for projects
- Provide general support to different departments as needed
- Shadow team members and learn about their roles and responsibilities
- Take initiative and ask questions to gain more knowledge of different tasks
- Help with administrative tasks, organization, and filing as required
- Learn and familiarize yourself with company tools, systems, and procedures
- Accurately complete time cards and work logs in a timely manner
- Communicate with worksite supervisor for absences and tardiness
- Adhere to all policies to maintain a safe work environment
- Support and complete other duties as assigned by supervisor/worksite
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong communication and willingness to learn
- Basic computer skills
- A positive, proactive attitude with a focus on learning
- Open to feedback and eager to develop new skills
- Program eligibility is defined: The age range is mandated by funder/program rules (not a discretionary preference).
- Compliance (minors): Must meet all minor employment requirement, including a valid California student work permit (B1-4) covering listed duties and hours. Hours limited to after-school or summer program schedules in accordance with the Education Code and the San Francisco Administrative Code Article 111, and subject to work hour restrictions set forth in the student work permit.
- MCO Classification: This role is classified as MCO-exempt under San Francisco Administrative Code Article 111 for employees in after-school or summer programs who are claimed as dependents for federal tax purposes. If exemption criteria are no longer met (e.g., turns 19, no longer a dependent, or works outside of after- school/summer program hours), compensation will immediately adjust to the applicable San Francisco MCO rate.
