Position Summary:
The Mosakowski Institute for Public Enterprise at Clark University is seeking undergraduate students with a passion for mentoring youth to serve as MAAX Mentors. MAAX Mentors will deliver the Maximizing Adolescent Academic Excellence (MAAX) curriculum to 9th and 10th grade students at Southbridge High School. Mentors will participate in weekly lab sessions on the Clark campus to review and prepare lessons in advance, and then engage directly with high school students to build academic skills, resilience, and leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend weekly lab sessions at Clark University to review upcoming MAAX lessons with program staff and peers.
  • Teach MAAX curriculum modules to 9th and 10th grade students at Southbridge High School.
  • Serve as a positive role model and provide academic and social encouragement to youth.
  • Collaborate with other mentors to ensure fidelity to the curriculum and support for student participants.
  • Communicate consistently with program staff about progress, challenges, and successes.
  • Commit to the program schedule throughout the academic semester.

Qualifications:

  • Current undergraduate student.
  • Strong interest in youth mentoring, education, or behavioral health.
  • Reliable transportation to Southbridge High School (about 35 minutes from Worcester).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Dependable, professional, and committed to supporting youth development.

Preferred (but not required):

  • Previous experience working with youth (tutoring, mentoring, camp counseling, etc.).
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.

Details:

  • Job Type: Part-time (academic year position)
  • Schedule: Approx. 10 hours per week (includes weekly lab + teaching time at Southbridge High).
  • Pay: $17-$20/ hour
  • Travel: Must have reliable transportation to travel between Worcester, MA and Southbridge, MA.

NOTE: If you have never worked at Clark, you must present original, unexpired identification in person as part of the onboarding process. For most Clark students, the acceptable ID is typically a passport OR either an SSN card or birth certificate, but there are other acceptable forms of ID (review the complete list here). Bring your ID with you to campus! Photocopies are NOT acceptable forms of ID.
