JOB SUMMARY
Institute for Social Research (ISR) is a growing, interdisciplinary applied research center situated at Sacramento State's Downtown School. With a rich 35-year history, ISR specializes in conducting program evaluations and research studies for state and local agencies, community organizations, private foundations, and academic institutions. Comprised of 18 professional staff and student research assistants, ISR’s mission is to be a public research partner to those organizations and agencies who are working to improve the lives of residents across the greater Sacramento region. https://www.csus.edu/center/institute-social-research/services-clients.html
The Research Associate I is responsible for conducting a variety of research tasks for clients of ISR.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conceptualize the research problem and develop appropriate measures and instruments (questionnaires, interviews, observational schedules).
- Supervise data collection and data entry.
- Outline and execute analysis, including applying appropriate statistical tests.
- Design tables and graphics for the display of results.
- Assisting in writing research reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Public Policy, Public Health, or related social science discipline or the equivalent combination of education and research experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of questionnaire and interview construction and knowledge of applied research design.
- Demonstrated experience with computer software programs for statistical analysis and database management.
- Demonstrated understanding of statistical and data processing techniques as they are applied in social science research.
- Demonstrated analytical skills and the ability to understand, review and analyze information to find underlying details.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with competing timelines and deliverables.
- Excellent attention to detail, problem solving skills, and ability to work independently.
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to orally present/recommend findings suggested by the data.
- Must be fingerprinted and pass a background check. Must continue to meet the established standards.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s Degree in a related social science discipline.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (or another language).
- Demonstrated experience in quantitative and/or qualitative data collection and research designs.
- Demonstrated experience with computer software programs for data analysis, database management, and survey administration. (e.g., NVivo, ArcGIS, SPSS, Stata, R, Qualtrics, CATI.)
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a full-time, non-exempt (eligible for overtime pay), benefited position that is covered under the California Public Employees’ Retirement System. Continued employment in this position is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises and the employee, and either University Enterprises or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
