Preschool Assistant Teacher

Cathedral Parkway Towers Preschool is seeking a dedicated, warm, and enthusiastic Assistant Teacher to join our Two's, 3-K, and/or Pre-K program. Under the guidance of the Lead Teacher, the Assistant Teacher helps create a nurturing, inclusive, and developmentally rich environment where every child feels safe, supported, and inspired to learn. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who is passionate about early childhood education and is either currently studying in the field or interested in pursuing a career in education, while developing their skills in a collaborative setting. We are also open to seasonal candidates seeking summer-only employment.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid Level I or higher NY State Teaching Assistant Certification strongly preferred
  • Enrollment in an early childhood education or related college program strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working in early childhood
  • Commitment to continuous professional growth
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

Key Responsibilities

Classroom & Instructional Support
Assist the Lead Teacher with daily lessons, routines, and both small- and whole-group activities. Help maintain an organized, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.

Child Engagement & Supervision
Actively engage with children through play and guided learning, while supporting social-emotional development, positive interactions, and ensuring safety and proper hygiene at all times.

Classroom Environment
Support the setup, organization, and cleanliness of materials and learning spaces, and report any unsafe or damaged equipment.

Collaboration & Administrative Support
Communicate professionally with families and team members, participate in meetings and events, assist with documentation of children’s progress, and follow all center policies and confidentiality guidelines.

Required trainings:

  • 2 hours of child abuse identification, reporting, and prevention
  • 15 hours of Article 47 professional development every 24 months
