Postdoctoral Research Fellow
The Bann Laboratory, based in the Hamon Center for Regenerative Science and Medicine and the Departments of Internal Medicine/Cardiology and Molecular Biology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join an interdisciplinary team studying the epigenetic basis of cardiac cell fate and human myocardial regeneration.
Our research spans two complementary directions: (1) defining the chromatin and epigenetic mechanisms governing direct reprogramming of cardiac fibroblasts into cardiomyocytes, with a focus on chromatin architecture and histone modification pathways, and (2) investigating myocardial regenerative capacity in animal and human models, leveraging unique access to human clinical samples and translational patient cohorts. Together, these programs aim to translate mechanistic insight into new therapeutic strategies for heart failure.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply cutting-edge genomic, epigenomic, and molecular biology approaches, including single cell and spatial technologies, ChIP-seq/CUT&RUN, Hi-C, RNA-seq, and viral-mediated reprogramming systems, to questions at the intersection of chromatin biology, developmental cardiology, and regenerative medicine. The lab offers close mentorship, a collaborative, well-resourced environment, and strong opportunities for career development, including support for independent grant applications and abstract/manuscript preparation.
Qualifications:
- PhD and/or MD in molecular biology, genetics, cardiovascular biology, developmental biology, or a related field
- Strong background in molecular biology and/or genomics techniques
- Experience with next-generation sequencing data analysis a plus, but not required
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, self-motivated approach to research
