About Us

Stepping Stones China is a non-profit organisation registered in Shanghai with a 3A status. With a mission to improve the education and general welfare of disadvantaged children in China, Stepping Stones has hosted numerous programs focused on children’s education and well-being since 2006. We recruit, train and support volunteers to teach essential 21st-century skills to under-served children and youth in China, focusing on digital literacy, foreign language, and social-emotional learning. We also provide professional training to foreign language teachers.

Stepping Stones’ work began in 2006, when principals of migrant schools in Shanghai and rural Chinese schools asked our founder to teach English to their students. English is the subject that poses the most challenges to rural and other under-served children, due to inadequate English language learning resources. Lack of attainment in English skills restricts educational and employment opportunities for disadvantaged children and youth. Our main objectives are to improve students’ motivation and confidence in English, which are two key dimensions of learning a second language.

Our program delivers lessons to thousands of students each year in 11 provinces. Students who participate in our program show increased interest and confidence in their studies, which improves their access to educational and work opportunities in the future. Additionally, students are exposed to different cultures, and get early experience of volunteer programs and volunteering spirit.

Job Description

• Manage multiple WeChat teaching groups: send volunteer reminders and following up on teaching materials
• Teach English classes at assigned program sites; step in as a substitute teacher or teaching assistant when required
• Organise and conduct student oral English assessments at the beginning and end of each semester
• Collect, enter, and help analyze program data for reporting purposes
• Commit to being on-site for class observation or substitute teaching at least one weekend day per week
• Interview volunteers and produce short videos to promote the program
• Contribute to the development of teaching resources and the preparation of volunteer certificates.

Requirements

• Full professional fluency in Chinese or English, with excellent communication skills;
• Strong time-management skills and a proven ability to work independently and efficiently;
• Available to work on weekends with a flexible schedule that accommodates varying program needs;
• Minimum commitment is 2 days per week for 3-4 months; other scheduling needs may be considered on a case by case basis.

我们的主要目标是提升学生学习英语的积极性和自信心，这是学习第二语言的两个关键要素。

我们的项目每年为来自中国 11个省份的学生提供课时服务。参加我们项目的学生在自信心和学习兴趣方面都有显著的改善和提高，这也有助于他们将来获得更好的教育和工作机会。此外，学生可以接触到不同的文化，并较早地接触到志愿者项目和志愿精神。

要求

• 中文或英文流利，具备优秀沟通能力；
• 时间观念强，能高效自主完成工作；
• 周末时间灵活，能保证稳定出勤;
• 每周至少工作2天，为期3-4个月；其他时间安排需求将根据具体情况而定。

职位描述

• 协调多个微信教学群，负责志愿者上课提醒与教学材料准备跟进；
• 在指定项目点进行英语教学，并在需要时担任替补教师或助教；
• 协助执行学期初与学期末的学生英语口语测试；
• 协助完成项目数据收集、录入及报告撰写工作；
• 周末需至少有一天可参与实地看课或代课；
• 负责采访志愿者并进行短视频剪辑；
• 协助开发教学资源，制作志愿者证书。
