Clinical Pre-Medical Internship

Overview:
Pasadena Eye Medical Group is a well-established, physician-owned ophthalmology practice in the heart of Pasadena, CA. Our providers offer expert care in cataract surgery and comprehensive ophthalmology. We are seeking a highly motivated, aspiring healthcare professional for a full-time, paid clinical internship. This opportunity offers extensive direct patient contact, hands-on clinical training, and exposure to both the medical and surgical aspects of ophthalmology—ideal for those seeking meaningful clinical experience valued by medical schools. Interns will also receive personalized mentorship and guidance through the medical school application process, led by Dr. Christopher Long, who brings over 10 years of experience in medical admissions advising.

Responsibilities:

Assist physicians during patient evaluations and minor procedures

Scribe detailed notes in the electronic medical record (EMR) during clinic visits

Perform ophthalmic technician duties including visual acuity, refractions, tonometry, dilation, and other components of ophthalmic workups

Operate and assist with ophthalmic imaging equipment (OCT, fundus photography, topography, etc.)

Educate patients about surgical and post-operative instructions

Support front-office and administrative tasks as needed

Participate in and receive support for the medical school application process including mock interviews, personal statement review, and application strategy guidance

Opportunities to take on leadership roles and/or quality improvement roles around the office to further highlight skills medical schools are interested in

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree completed or in progress (preferably pre-medical or pre-health track)

Strong interpersonal, writing, and organizational skills

Eagerness to learn and contribute in a fast-paced clinical environment

Prior healthcare experience is helpful but not required

Demonstrated interest in a career in the medical field

Details:

Full-time, paid position

Minimum 18-month commitment (If applying to medical school, should be applying May 2027 for matriculation in 2028)

Start date: Flexible, preference for immediate or summer start

Location: Pasadena, CA
