After-School Van Driver and Student support Staff

We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Part‑Time After‑School Van Driver & Student Support Staff Member to join our team. This role is ideal for individuals looking to earn extra income while maintaining their existing work schedule.

In this position, you will be responsible for safely transporting students in a program‑owned van and supporting their well‑being during after‑school hours. Your reliability, professionalism, and positive attitude will help create a welcoming experience for students while ensuring smooth transportation operations.

This is a part‑time position following the Howard County Public School System calendar.

Regular Hours:
Monday–Friday, 2:30 PM–4:30 PM

Howard County Half‑Day Hours:
11:30 AM–1:30 PM

This role offers a meaningful way to support families in the community while strengthening your skills in youth engagement, safety practices, and customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate shuttle vehicles, to transport students from school to designated locations
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers during transit by following all traffic laws and safety protocols
  • Assist students with boarding and exiting vehicles, providing friendly and professional customer service
  • Perform routine vehicle inspections, maintenance checks, and report any mechanical issues promptly
  • Communicate effectively with school staff, parents, and students to coordinate pick-up and drop-off schedules
  • Maintain accurate logs of trips, passenger counts, and vehicle condition reports

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of driving experience with a valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Clean driving record, with no major violations or at‑fault accidents.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate a vehicle while transporting students and materials.
  • Experience working with children in grades K–5, with a calm, patient, and positive approach.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain a supportive, student‑centered environment.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to follow established transportation and safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in after‑school programs, camps, or youth education settings.
  • Familiarity with STEAM‑based learning environments.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
