About Discovery Club
Discovery Club is Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest's EEC-licensed school-age childcare program for children in grades K-5. Located in Marlborough Public Schools, the program offers before-school, after-school, school-vacation, and summer care in a safe and inclusive environment. Children build friendships, explore new interests, and participate in hands-on enrichment, recreation, and free-choice activities.
Position Summary
Site Coordinators oversee the daily operation of an assigned before-school or after-school site. They provide direction and support to Group Leaders and Assistant Group Leaders while remaining actively involved in child supervision, programming, family communication, and daily operations. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, confident, and able to respond calmly to changing needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Open or close the site as assigned and ensure program spaces, records, safety materials, and supplies are ready for use.
- Oversee daily operations in accordance with EEC regulations, school expectations, Discovery Club procedures, and Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest policies.
- Maintain accurate attendance, monitor staff-to-child ratios, and ensure children remain accounted for throughout the program day.
- Coordinate staff assignments, activity areas, transitions, snack, gym or outdoor play, and dismissal procedures.
- Provide daily direction, coaching, and support to Group Leaders and Assistant Group Leaders; model active supervision and professional conduct.
- Address concerns related to staff engagement, attendance, performance, or program expectations and communicate ongoing concerns to program leadership.
- Provide active supervision, build positive relationships with children, and help lead age-appropriate enrichment and recreation activities.
- Use positive behavior-management strategies and support children with individual medical, behavioral, developmental, or accessibility needs.
- Respond appropriately to injuries, emergencies, challenging behaviors, staffing concerns, and unexpected situations; promptly report significant incidents.
- Ensure children are released only to authorized individuals and that all arrival and dismissal procedures are followed.
- Communicate professionally with guardians, school personnel, staff, and program leadership; refer sensitive or ongoing concerns to the Program Director.
- Complete and review required attendance, injury, incident, medication, and behavior documentation accurately and promptly.
- Monitor the site phone and report absences, enrollment concerns, supply needs, facility issues, and operational concerns.
- Support staff orientation and training and maintain an organized, clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
Minimum EEC Qualifications
Candidates must be at least 20 years old and meet at least one of the following Massachusetts EEC qualification pathways for a school-age Site Coordinator:
- A bachelor's degree in an EEC-approved field and at least six months of experience working with school-age children;
- A bachelor's degree in any field, or an associate's degree in an EEC-approved field, and at least nine months of experience working with school-age children; or
- A high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of experience working with school-age children.
Additional Qualifications
- Previous childcare, camp, recreation, education, or youth-development experience is strongly preferred; leadership experience is preferred.
- Ability to provide clear direction, hold staff accountable, and manage groups of children with patience and consistency.
- Strong organization, communication, teamwork, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Reliable attendance and the ability to work the entirety of assigned shifts.
- Comfort using email, electronic forms, attendance records, and other program communication systems.
- Willingness to complete required background checks, EEC training, CPR, First Aid, and other professional development.
Schedule
- Before-school shifts are generally between 7:00am and 9:00am, Monday-Friday.
- After-school shifts are generally between 2:30pm and 6:00pm, Monday-Friday.
- Additional hours may be available during school vacations, professional development days, early release days, and summer programming.
Candidates do not need to be available for every shift or every day. Partial availability is welcome, and schedules are developed based on candidate availability and program needs.
